Haberlock had his hands full in both classes, as Honda-mounted Drew Davis stayed close to the Kawasaki-mounted Haberlock in all four motos in which the two went head to head on Saturday night; Haberlock came out on top in three of those four motos. Another bright perforl1)~r on Saturday night was Honda-mounted Jon Kauffman. Coming off a serious injury earlier this year, Kauffman retumed to his form of old while taking two overall class wins. He posted the 250cc and Before The Hill Intermediate victories, in both cases ahead of this season's dominant riders, Devin Connaghan and Keith Kadell. For his part, Honda rider Kadell posted the 125cc Intermediate-class overall win with an impressive performance. Kadell dominated both motos on Friday to continue his stranglehold on the class points lead in the series_ Honda-mounted Dan Hewitt, who had earlier topped the Before The Hill Intermediate class, trailed Kadell in the first moto and then backed that up with a third-place finish to Kadell and Joey Mancuso in moto two to snare the runner-up laurels, ahead of Mancuso (5-2), Raym Conkey (3-4) and James Hamilton (4-6). 44 JANUARY 10. 2001 • eye I contest. Yamaha-mounted Aaron McClinton posted a similar performance by netting an overall win in the adjoined aocc Beginner class, although McClinton's win came by virtue of 1-2 finishes, leading Nathan Whitlow (3-1) and Matt Wilson (2-3) into the winner's circle. Haberlock then finalized his Fridaynight sweep with his a blitz of the Supermini class, ahead of McMackin (2-2), Randklev (3-3) and Kawasaki jockey Daniel Nelson (4-4). Haberlock and Davis contested separate divisions on Saturday in the combined aocc age-group classes. Haberlock drilled the holeshot in moto two to polish off the competition. Davis, who led moto one from start to finish, suffered an untimely crash while challenging Haberlock for the point position and, after mounting a charge through the field, trailed Haberlock, Jerry Braswell and Alex Hill to finish fourth. Haberlock scored an overall win in the aocc (7 -11) portion, ahead of Randklev (2-2) and Levi Bishop (3-3). Ricky Wuori, who remained close to the lead foursome, topped the aocc (12-13) class with a 1-1 sweep to lead Rand Hakes (2-2) and Ricky's brother Jesse Wuori, who placed third on a 3-3 tally. Davis got lucky and won the 14- to 16-year-old class with a 1-3 score, ahead of Braswell (4-1), Hill (3-2) and Jacob Oerding (2-4). The best of the Haberlock/Davis meetings came in both Superminiclass contests. Haberlock got off the n e _ s • five in moto one. In moto two, though, a multiple-rider pileup ended Connaghan' s chances of an overall win; Kadell and Kauffman jumped out in front of the field and remained there to finish one-two. Kauffman garnered the overall win, ahead of Kadell. Placing third in moto two of the Before The Hill class was Raym Conkey, who rode his newly acquired Yamaha YZ250F. The Husqvarna Challenge, which is open to 50cc riders mounted on machines sponsored by local Husqvarna dealer Bill's Motorcycles, was topped by David Paschke, who regularly competes aboard the Italian marque. The two remained close in moto two, but once again Haberlock had the advantage and capped off his I-I sweep, ahead of Davis (2-2) and Ricky Wuori (4-3). Hill (3-4) and Randklev (5-5) filled out the top five overall. Another dominant t,.wo-class performer was central Oregon rider Rhett Johnson, who won the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open classes despite tough competition from fellow KTM rider Gared Steinke in the 60cc Senior (911) class.
