Ryan Morais was th e only rider to win two such awa rds in ' 99, coming away with bo th the Scott Golden Goggle and the Pro Circuit Plati nu m Pipe prizes. It's fitting that Morais didn' t win the Dunlop Silver Tire award, as a tire was about the only thing to hind er the Chaparra l rider's effor t ove r Thanksgivi ng weekend (he w as docked three positions for going on the wrong side of a tire in one race). Few realized it, but AleSSIp roved prophetic, as he had said last year after winning the 65cc (7-9) cha m pio nship, "I had one bad moto; I'll be back for the Bronze Boot in 1999." Dea n Patterson, who earned the Mecha nix Gear award for flaw lessly mainta ining his da ughter [esssica's Kawasakis said, "I was worried when she told me that she was going to be the first wo ma n to jump the Elevator, bu t she d id it without any problem." KTM Mo torcycles presented motor cycles to 50cc (4-6)-class con tender Jeb Smith and SOcc (7-8) racer Les Smith for their class champio nships . In presenting the Ricky Joseph Sportsma nship award, race promoter Jerr y West said, "Ryan Ellerbe was in conten tion when he saw his buddy cras h hard on the eleva tor jump. Ellerbe stopped, jum ped off his bike and made sure tha t his friend was okay befor e resuming the race ." W
