In moto o ne, YZ250 rider Sam Sa wdey was th e firs t to reach the left·hand , high-banked switchback tum, DixieMX ahead of Nathan Wood s, on a KTM. The very next tum claimed them both. Marks stepped off in the rig ht-hander after the triple jump - the same com er that had clai med Sawdey and Woods on la p on e - an d the outcome wa s se ttled . Marks a lso mo ved u p a spo t, int o seco nd . At the end of lap one, the lead was held by Sa wdey , a nd he -was fo llowed by Marks, Jurevi ch and Scott . Woods did no t sta rt . Sawdey an d Marks tried to block-pas s eac h other and tan gled . jurevich za pped them both a n d ga ined a la rg e lea d . Th e Ya m a ha riders w ere unhurt, a n d Marks wa s ab le to pi ck h is mach ine up and ge t goi ng befor e Sawdey . Scott con tinu ed to cir cu la te in fo u rt h place. Sa wd ey used a block-pass an d motored ahea d o f Marks. Toward th e en d of th e mo to , af ter Marks and Sawdey had run in to eac h other severa l times, Marks got back by Sawdey . Jurevich was again the winner. Marks came to the ch l.'Ckcrs second, an d Saw de y was third .
