oint loss. Masencup dropped two. Sev-ral miles of road followed , taki ng rid-rs to the next timed section. A res tar t at mile 27.20 led into sectio n wo - 9 miles of the tight stu ff. This time, iders got a chance to ride o n some of -lorlda 's famous palmettos, which is rind of lik e rid ing through a field of wling balls. This time, Gr avitt posted h e fast time, dropping three. Veator md Masencup each posted a four-point oss. Section th ree, an 18-mph section, roved to be off o n mileag e and had to thrown out. This helped man y riders, ind ud ing Veator, who burned the che ck v several minutes . , The gas stop came at 58 miles. Ten miles of free territory led to the final and longest sectio n of the day, a tough 17-m iler tha t would be the decid ing factor in th e tig h t ba ttl e between ravitt and Veator, both wi th a score of four at thi s po in t. Masencu p had a six goi ng into the fina l section . Some controversy su r ro u nded th is section as well. It seems th e trail nearly do ubled back on itse lf in several places. A missed tu m he re or the re ha d riders scrambling throu gh the woods, looking for arrows. Rid ers vi sible through the foliage ca used th ose w ho were lost to hea d to w a rd them to ca tch t he tra iL De pending on w here this ha p pened , riders either gained several miles of trail unknowing ly or wound up riding parts of the trail again . The trail was fast enough that, whether they got lost or no t, some faster riders were able to zero the section. Once again, Gravitt was the man, staying on his minute through the check-out for a zero and a total of four. Veator had trouble finding the arrows and possibly rode some parts of the trail twice. He dropped two points. Masencup was on the gas hard for a one-point loss. The last ch e ck of the day was a known co ntrol that also created a bit of a buzz. It seems that an inexperienced c hecker or two a t the checkpoint assu med that si nce t he ch e c k was kno wn , yo u cou ld go th rough as early as yo u wanted ; the rul es state that rid ers may o nly go throug h up to 15 minut es early. Severa l ri ders cl aimed th at the checker (or checkers) told them to come o n th rough no matter how ea rly they we re, because it would n't count against them anyway. Well , it did . There were numerous DQs. Protests w ere filed, but the check w as kept in; the rid ers shou ld have known better. All in all, it wa s a good race, in spite of the problems, and thi s win shou ld put Gravitt in the front for the championship. eN Capital City Enduro Tallahassee, Florida Results: Octobe r 24, 1999 (Round 5) O lA: Allen Gravitt. The first 250cc Novice moto was an Ole Henden benefit, as he p ut his YZ2S0 into an im m ediate lea d and was never co n tes ted .
