day by taking the 125cc D holL
'Shot and lead ing
the pa ck to the first turn. However l he went
down and Kyle PUlley iumped to the front, with
Brian Wylie follow ing him to take second and
Jerem y Wylie rejoining the race in third . Puney
stayed on the gas, tryin g to k""p the lead , as
Brian Wylie dropped back and Jer emy Wylie
too k over second, leavin g C had Sharpe in the
third spot. Jeremy Wylie set his sigh ts on Puney,
determ ined to get his lead back. Jerem y Wylie
put the heat on Puney a nd mad e the pass for the
lead, takin g the checkered flag. Pun ey was second and Sharpe finished third .
The secon d moto also had qu ite a few lead
changes. Jeremy Wylie took the ho leshot once
again, with John Elliot and PUlley follOwing. As
Jeremy Wylie contin ued to lead th e way and
Elliot held on to second, Jeffrey Arnold put the
press ure on Puney. Ar nold mad e his move on
Pu ney after the whoo ps. Puney fen behind with
apparent bike trouble, and Sharpe passed him,
too. Jeremy Wylie took his second victory flag of
the day and the overa ll. Elliot finished second.
Arno ld too k the third pod ium position. Pu ney
was second ove rall, and Arnol d took third overall.
Kawasa ki-mou n ted Alex Ne lson showed his
talent as he took wins in 'boL the Junio r Mini
h
and 60cc (7-8) classes.
The End uro class got off to a good start, wi th
Rid,a rd Cooley on his KTM taki ng the race to
th e firs t tu rn and p ulling the ho les hot for his
class, w ith John Burn ett e running behi nd him
and James Tomlin in third. Burnette stayed right
with Coo ley , an d the two pu lled a good lead
from the rest of the pack. Cooley got into some
trou ble trying to pass some lapped traffic, cased
a n up hill do u ble and crashed. Burn ette gladly
too k Over the lead and we nt on to ·wi n the first
moto, with N ike Pennell working his way to second and Tomlin finishing ou t in third.
In th e second moto, Bu rn e tt e too k the

advan tage. War d ma de no further mistakesl and
he rode in for the moto win . Fowler was a close
secon d, wh ile Musgrave was able to fend off the
late charge of Tow nsend , who had moved up to
take foorth. Sharp filled oo t the top five.
When the second moto left the line , Fowler
was again out front , ripp ing a nice holeshot. In
what must be considered an uncommon sight in
an y race, the rar e, Italian-built Vertemati S03cc
thumpers filled ou t two of the top three po sitions, as Sharp had his black mac hine in second l
while Ward ran in third . Musgrave agai n gated
well , as h e held down fo u rth, a head of
Tow nsend , a t the end of lap one .
On lap thr ee, Ward passed both Sharp and
Fow ler to ta ke over the lead . On ce ou t front,
Ward imm edi a tely es tablished a tw o -second
cushion . Fow ler still rod e in second, while Sharp
remained steady in third. During the S<.'COnd half
of the moto , it appeared that Fowler was begin ning to in ch ba ck up to Ward, which would
hav e se t u p an exciting battle for the overall.
This was not to be, however, as Fowler suffen.~
a late miscue and d ropped all the wa y back to
fou rt h. Sharp took adva ntage of the situ ation
and movt.>d up to second, while Musgrave now
rode in third . Ward pushed hard all the way to
the end, and he took the moto win comfo rtably.
Sharp finis hed his stro ng rid e in secon d . Mu s·
grave came acros s. the line in third . Fowler was
fourth, a nd Townsend finished fifth.
Ward 's d oubl e moto wins ensu red him the
overa ll victory on the day, and he took hom e the
top cash. Musgrave's 3-3 score was goo d enough
for second, whi le Fowler's 2-4 rides pla ced him
third. Sharp finished up in fourth after posting a
5-2 tally, a nd Townse nd filled ou t the top five
aft er goin g 4-5 on the day .

''frick or Treat" -a t Barona Oaks took on a new

Cas Swift had to earn the Supennini overall
after crashing with David Meyers in tu m two of
the second moto . Swift took the first-moto win ,
with Joey Navarro in tow. Bobby Romero finished third , and Meyers crossed over sixth.
In the second mo to, Meyers sna tched the

lost his front- wh eel traction, he fell, and Swift
had n owhere to go . This gave the lead to
Romero, with Navarro a close second . Swift was
able to get back into the action, but Meyers SUf4
