a suc cessful Baja debut, as American Honda factory riders finished

SCORE Baja 1000.
Johnny Campbell won his third Baja
1000 in a ro w and the second Baja su ccess for co-rider Tim Staa b, who was a
la st-min u te repl a cem en t for Craig
Smith. (Smith was injured w hile pr erunning the Terrible Tow ns off-road race in
H
Nevada a few weeks before the 1000.)
The winning d uo - Camp bell an d Staa b finis hed the Baja 1000 race in 14 hours
and 15 minutes.
Completi ng the course in 14 hs u rs,
26 minutes, in second place came American Honda 's ot he r team, made up of
Jonah Street , Torsten Bostrom and Greg
Bri n g le . They we re o n ly 14 seco n ds
away from giving the new XR650R a 1-2
swee p for fastest overall times in all race
classes .
