Los Angeles CountyRaceway Dally spooked at Gremlin GP By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA OCT. 17 , After circu la ting Los Angeles County Raceway at the back of the Vet B ~gi nner clas s for the first I S minutes of th e 45-m inute race, N ick Dall y sud denly came alive (or every o ne else s ta r ted ge tt ing ti red ) a n d he proceeded to p as s th e en tir e field to earn the win at California Racin g Clu b's Gre mlin Gra nd Prix.. Wh en th e g ree n flag w as w aved for th e de ad ~ en g in e s ta r t, Dana Kellstrom to o k the holes ho t, follo we d by Mark Purser a nd Elm er Silfies . Darren Lo wry go t off to a si xth-p lac e start, bu t by the com pletion of the ope ning lap h e w a s cha ll e ngi ng Kell strom for th e lead. Low ry passed Kellstrom for th e top spo t a lap later in a ba ttle tha t would see the lead bou nce back and forth over the nex t few laps. Me a n while, a t the o ther end of the fie ld , Dally a nd hi s An sw er- ba ck ed RM250 sta rted picking off the backmar kers, and by lap five he was up int o fifth place, behind Kirk Ja nco. A lap later, Dall y wa s running third and closing in on Lowry and Kellstrom, w ho were still ha shing it out over the lead . Da lly had m omentum o n his side, a nd he ove rtook Lowry a nd then passed Kellstrom for the lead on the sa me lap . From tha t po in t on , it wa s Da lly out front all the way to the checkers for a w ell-deserved victo r y . Lo wry held off Jan co to e a r n s eco n d, w ith Pu rs er an d Jim Stu fflebe am round ing out the top five. It w asn' t much of a contest in the Vet Novice class as CRSO -mo un ted Jeff Hares turned his O hole shot into a runaway victo ry . Har es enjoyed a IO-seco nd lead a t lhe ha lfway poi nt and doubled that margin by the tim e the checkers fell a fter 45 min utes on th e tra ck. Pas ha Afshar held down second pla ce for the enti re race , finishin g a goo d di stance ahead of Vinny Lowry and Scott Wilba nks in third and fourth, respectivel y.
