Mesa began to fade, and Ma'rk Foster, wh o had
slow ly bee n gai ning o n him , passed him on the
fro nt straig ht as the two rid ers began lap five.

Mar k Fost er and Jeff Short d iced for the first
half of the 750cc Superbike con test before Fos ter
stretched out a definitive lead and took the win.

The 250cc Prod uctio n contest proved to be
a n ex citing race. Robert Kennedy won wi th a
whopping eight-s(.'COnd lead after some int ense
d icing wit h Frank Ma z ur, who e v e n tu a ll y
dropp<'ll back to fourth after a battle wit h Kevin
Scott and Chris McG rail. Both riders cam e from
behi nd to pass Mazur, w ho, despite his scra ppy

rider an d d ra ft them at th e checke rs, which is h i ~
usual m.o. Scott fini sh ed seco nd and M cGr ail
finished third.

Fans were paying special attention to Wyeth
Jackson on her Advantage Cellular ZX9 . The
Mountain View event was hl. first competition

ride since she fractured her sho ulder on a practice
ride on July 4. She was rid ing qui te well but the
rid ers picked up the pace, leavi ng he r in ninth
place, right behi nd Marty Sims . On lap seven, it
was Jackson whom the leaders had corne up on in
the "Dragon Slide" (turns seve n thro ugh nin e, a
fas t , technical series of turns with ele va tio n
changes). As Jack.<;Qn came out of turn nine on to
the front straight. there was a frenzy among the
. top.three riders to ge t around her . At the start of
the final lap , Turpin was able to ga in a mtrol, leaving Orla ndo in second, with Dan Turner in third.
