Les Smith, on his Kawa saki, came ready to
ra cc. He came away with double class wins in
the 60cc and Jun ior Mini classes, showing grea t
ridi ng abi lity an d proving unbeatable. He got
pe rfec t ga te starts a nd pulled th e ho les hots in
both classes, a nd then led every LIp to take the
win in each class. Smith also won a perfect race
in the 50cc class on his Cob ra.
Aaron Stancil got a good start on his Yamaha
a nd mad e it to th e firs t tum ahead of Brooks
Brown as the 250cc D co ntest got u nder way_
Altho u g h the re were o n ly two rid ers in this
class, it was a tig h t race fro m start to finis h .

Wayne Dickey kc-pt his Yamaha on two wheels

and pul1ed away from the field . Then Dickey
got ou t of shape on th e fastest stra ightaway on

moved int o seco nd. press ure d Williams, and
took th e lea d at th e halfwa y point. Wi11 iams
splas hed his way back aro und Mann, only to go
d own in a soggy left-hander . Dickey recovered.

In SOcc co mbined racing, Ben Fleetwood
pulled off an upset wi n . Hea vy favori te Cole
Bou twel1 took the holeshot and appeared to be
in complete cont rol of the treache rous condi tions. With a quarte r- lap lead , Boutwell had
tr ou bl e on the far sid e of the tra ck a nd wen t
down on a double jump. Fleetwood capita1ized
on the Yama ha speedster's misfo rtune an d rode
his Honda pas t for the win.
As racin g conti nued, tra ck cond itions began
to worsen. Seve ral streams crossed. the straights,
an d berms were kn ee- d eep with mud. The re
wer e bik es stuck on the track, a nd one was in
the pond.
Of the six riders en tered in the 250cc B class,
only Keith Finch answered the call to the line.
Fmch mad e one lap arou nd the tra ck and was
award ed the win.
