On the thi rd lap, Mes a again passed Parriott on the brakes . In the back section, Parriott reg ained second and tried to put som e d istan ce bet ween himself and Mesa . Mesa began to fade, and Ma'rk Foster, wh o had slow ly bee n gai ning o n him , passed him on the fro nt straig ht as the two rid ers began lap five. By lap six, the podium positions were d ecided . Mar k Fost er and Jeff Short d iced for the first half of the 750cc Superbike con test before Fos ter stretched out a definitive lead and took the win. Short fini shed a re spectabl e seco n d , w hile Ha rl e y Bar nes finish ed a ll a lone in third. Announcer John Fos gat e took sympathy o n Barnes and attempted to sta rt a new-bike fund for Barnes, who is still riding a 1991 GSX-R. The 250cc Prod uctio n contest proved to be a n ex citing race. Robert Kennedy won wi th a whopping eight-s(.'COnd lead after some int ense d icing wit h Frank Ma z ur, who e v e n tu a ll y dropp<'ll back to fourth after a battle wit h Kevin Scott and Chris McG rail. Both riders cam e from behi nd to pass Mazur, w ho, despite his scra ppy di sposi tion , wa s un a bl e to la tch o n to eith e r rider an d d ra ft them at th e checke rs, which is h i ~ usual m.o. After a fourth-place finish on Saturday, Yamaha-mounted Ronnie Clark wa s ho ping for a better finish, but a firs t-turn mishap wit h M ike C hase thwarted th e Alb uquerque, ew Mexico, native's ef forts. By midmoto, a battl e for fifth between Keith Ca m pbelt and Wes Hal e end ed with Ca m pbelt securing the position. Keltng g. fresh off a thirdplace overalt finish the week before at the AMA Fou r-Stroke National in Denver, and accustomt!d to the lon ge r moto times, ree led in and passed Zulian for third with two lap s remaining. Unfortunately, on the last lap, Keltogg's YZ250 experienced clu tch di fficulty , result in g in a premature retiremen t to the pit s. Atk ins con tinu ed to ma intain his co nsistency, hitting every com er perfectly. Clark pulled up through the pack and ba ttled with Stro ud for sixth as the fron t-ru n ners began to weave through lapped traffic . Karlsen slipp< 'll thre e seconds o ff of Atkins ' pa ce as th e two crossed the check ers a full half- min ute ahead of Zu lian in thi rd. Campbell and Hale rou nded ou t the top five . The overall went to A tkins, with KarlSen, Campbell, Clark and Ha le following.- Results In the 250cc B class , Rya n Rozinski smoked the field with a dean SWel'P and an im pressive 12second ru n o n seco nd place (or the win o n Sunday . Travis Mullins, Josh Elliot, Lonnie Bre eson d and Jayson Maynard lo cked up the rem aining overall finishes. Rozinski finished just as impres-sively in the 125cc B class with another I-I sweep. The Mountain View event was hl. first competition ~ ride since she fractured her sho ulder on a practice ride on July 4. She was rid ing qui te well but the rid ers picked up the pace, leavi ng he r in ninth place, right behi nd Marty Sims . On lap seven, it was Jackson whom the leaders had corne up on in the "Dragon Slide" (turns seve n thro ugh nin e, a fas t , technical series of turns with ele va tio n changes). As Jack.<;Qn came out of turn nine on to the front straight. there was a frenzy among the . top.three riders to ge t around her .
