Within a lap , Evans was con trolling the pace out front. Evans put a couple of seconds on Sleeter, bu t Sleete r wasn't about to let him get away, and by the eight h lap of what would eve ntually be a 15-lap race, Sleeter ha d reeled Evans back in and was maki ng a race ou t of it. For the nex t fou r laps, Sleeter was all over the much mor e experienced Evans, looking for a mis take on which he could capitalize. Coming out of a sweeping tum in the back section, Evans ' Suzuki quit, and Sleeter suddenly found himself with a la-second lead over Taylor .
