BalIard was the only one to cornpl etely jump th e 90-foot-iong tabl et op comi ng up fro m the sand section of the track . He wou ld make up time, but he could not make a pa ss stic k in the next corner for the lead. A t th e end of lap two , Yoho stu ffed his way p ast Ad ams into fourth in that same corner. Pedrero slowly pulled 'ou t a second per lap and was never challenged . The riders battli n g for second throu gh six th stayed close, separated by on ly four seconds . On lap th ree, Ballard felI in the ba ck a n d th e o rder cha nged. Yo ho now m o v ed up to secon d , fo llowed b y Wood , Adams, Mike Ste venson a n d Ballard. Ballard went off the tra ck , h and in g th e lead to Yoho a n d mo ving everyo ne else up one spot. The o r d e r o n th e seco n d lap w as Yoh o, Pedrero , Wood, Ad ams, Stevens on and Gardner . On lap three, Stevenson sudd enl y jumped to th ird , ge tti n g b y Ad ams and Wood, who had faltered in the back section. Pedrero was chalIenging for the lead , with Stevenson closing the ga p to the fron t two . The top thr ee were now o n ly two seco n ds apart. Pe d rero was gaining time in th e two horsesh oe sections, and he tried to pass Yoho a couple of times bu t cou ld not get the pass accomplished. The hor sesh oe sections would come back and bite Pedrero, though. On the next-to-last lap, he was going so fast that he ove rshot the tum and went over the berm, losin g all his momentum and a l mos t lo sing sec o n d to Stevenson. Then lapped traffi c became a fact or. Sudd enly, on the la st lap, Stevenson e xp erien ced bike problems a n d dropped out of contention . Yoho us ed this to his ad vantage and pulled ou t to a three-second lead at the end. Sanderson BINGHAMTON, NY, SEPT. 25 ick Strenk owski earned the overall win in the AHRMA Vintage 250cc Expert class by way of his 2-1 score at the AHRMA Vinta ge Mot ocross and Vet Cha mpi onships, h osted by Tom Hurd Promotions . The No rth e ast Regional AHRMA Vintag e riders cam e ou t to the Broome-Tioga Sports Center on a beautiful autumn afternoon to race on th e Broome-Ti oga N a tional tra ck . Modern bike riders were also on hand to race the Over 25, Over 30, Over 35 and Over 40 Exp ert, Amat eur a n d Novice classes, making for a fu ll progra m of .racing . Track conditions were perfect and provid ed great racing for all the rid ers. Strenkowski nailed the hole sh ot in th e fi rs t Vin ta g e 250cc Exp ert m ot o . T ra il ing h im were Rich Field , Jo h n Weaver, John Brillo and Edward Schaefer. The top three remained in the sa me positions on lap two, with Schaefer ge tting around Brillo for fourth, dropping Brillo to fifth. On the last lap, Strenkowski mad e a mistake on the Nation al hill that cost him the lead and the first-moto win. When the lead ers appear ed at the top of the hill, it was Field ou t front and Strenkowski second. The moto went in th e A H RMA record b ooks as Field , Strenko w s ki , Brillo , Scha efer and Weaver. . Weaver managed to get the jump off the gate and be the first rid er through the first tum in the secon d Vinta ge 250cc Expert mot!J . Strenkowski q uickl y passed Weav er for the lead . Roun d ing out the top o f th e field were Field, Schaefe r, Brillo and Paul Havir. When the top five cam e off the National hill on lap one, Field was in the point position, with Str enkowski, Schaefer , Ha vir and BrilIo in tow. The top five were spread out by the end of lap two. The only real battle was D for the win. Field cras hed on lap three, allowing Strenkowski to take the lead . Field dropped to seco nd . Round ing out the top five were Schaefer, Bria n Stickels and H a v ir. On th e last lap , Fiel d dropped out of the top five, and the secon d- mo to finishing o rder was Strenkowski, Schaefer, Stickels, Havir and Steve Locker. Strenkowski earned the overall win, wi th Schaefer and Field rounding out the Vin tage 250cc Expert podium. Rich Fogel earned holeshot honors in the firs t Vin tage Evolution 200 Open mo to, Edward Blewet t and Mark Wu ndealand passed Fogel shortly after the first tum . Fogel dropped to third . Dan Lefever and Scott Reutzel rounde d ou t the top five. Blewett took the moto win, fo llowed by Wund ea land , Reutzel, Fogel and Thomas Dalbert. Fogel m ana ged to ge t a no the r holeshot bu t was soo n passed by Wund ealan d for the lead . Rounding ou t the top five were Fogel, Lefever, Mark Griggs and Joseph Va n ell a .
