PACE w ill continu e to operate its Supercross activities from its Auro ra, Illinois, office. ·Bostrom to World Su erbike C a liforn ia n Ben Bostrom (rig h t), th e 1998 AMA Superbik e Champion and 1999 series runner-up, signed a contra ct on Mond a y, October 18 w ith Ducati Corse to race as Carl Fogart v' s Performan ce Du cati teammate in the 2000 Wor ld Superbike Championship . "I am going, " Bostrom said on October 18, just five days a fter getting the offer via a ph on e call from Ita ly in the w ee hours of October 13. 'Til sign something today and send it back today." Bostrom 's dea l is for two years, with Du cati hopin g that th e 25-y ea r-old form er dirt tracker can prove a quick stu dy from Fogarty and learn the tracks in 2000, then make a run for the World Su perbike title in 2001. "I' m so exci ted . I can' t wait," Bostrom sa id . "I' m going over there for a test on November 11 at Irnola (Italy)." Th e dea l throws a wrench into th e Vance & Hines Ducati team's plans for next year, as Bostrom was expected to lead the squad in 2000. Now it appears as thou gh the team will consist of Aust ralian Troy Bayliss, who raced in th e Britis h Superbi ke Seri es this year on a fac tory Duca ti , and fo rmer Yoshimura Suzuki rider Steve Rapp. That pairing was confirmed by team ow ner Vance on Monday, October 18 as Cycle News went to press . "Terry (Vance) gave me his best wishes," Bostrom said of his conversa tion with his former team owner. "I know 1have som e unfinished bu siness to take care of here, but I think I made the righ t decision." Bostrom wo n the 1998 AMA Super bike title on a Ho nda RC45 and finished run nerup in '99 on the Vance & Hi nes Ducati, Along the way, he won one leg and finis hed second in the ot her during the Laguna Seca round of the World Superbike Series in July , attracting the attention of the Ducati factory. Iro nicall y, for the majority of the 1999 se ason it w as Bostrom's Van ce & Hines teammate Anthon y Gobert who wa s bein g tipped to ge t the second Du cati World Superbike rid e for 2000. "I would ha ve d on e the sa me thin g if I we re Ducat i," Vance said on October 18. "I work for Ducati and if it' s in the best int erest of Du cati then it' s okay with me. I'm lookin g forward to wor kin g with Troy (Bayliss). I hear that he's a rea lly good guy ."
