AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr will be the guest of honor at the AMA/Will Stoner Swap Meet at the York Interstate Fairgrounds in York, Pennsylvania, on January 16, Carr will sign autographs from 11 a,m. to 1 p.m. in the Old Main building at the fairgrounds. Road racer Larry Pegram is back in business after securing sponsorship from Competition Accessories, which will see him ride a factory-supplied Ducati in the AMAIChevy Trucks Superbike Series this year. Pegram's Ducati will come straight from the factory and Eraldo Ferracci will tune it. though the Fast By Ferracci owner likely won't be at the races. Pegram will be the only rider on the team, and he will use Dunlop tires. Competition Accessories is one of the largest motorcycle mail-order companies in the country. Pegram won the Willow Springs round of the AMA Superbike Series in 1999 (his first-ever AMA Superbike win), and he finished the series ranked fifth. George Omo Jr., 69, died on December 15 at SI. John's Hospital in Oxnard, California, after a lengthy illness. Omo raced in the early 1950s and later opened Omo & Son's Motorcycles, which has been an established business for over 30 years. He will be remembered as a racer, sponsor, mechanic and one of the top restoration experts of vintage motorcycles in Southem California. Omo is survived by his wife, Carman, and son, George. Not that difficult dept.: The AMA has made some changes to its road racing rules regarding its teams testing at facilities prior to races. To clarify the rule that came into question at last year's season finale in Colorado, the AMA's rule on track rentals now says that • exclusive track rentals by participants including manufacturers, teams or individuals, within 10 days preceding the first day of official practice (re: Friday), are not allowed. Regional race meets, promoter/race track organized open practice and open schools are not restricted.· In addition, riders who are in the top 10 in the points chase for either the Superbike or 600cc Supersport classes are not allowed to take part in Thursday's promoter's practice. Ditto for riders who finished in the top 10 in those two classes in the previous season's final point standings, and for former National Champions within the preceding five years.
