Millsaps rules the Rock

Fresh off his Lor etta Lynn's cha m pions hip, Davi
Mi llsaps posted a four-mo ta sweep in th e 80cc
(7~ 1 1) and Supcrmini di vision s a t round 19 of
the Suns hine Sta te C ha m pions hip Ser ies, held at
Hardrock Cy cle Park. Just over 290 rid ers competed on this fine day of racing in the 95-degree
Florida heat .
In the first Supermini moto, Millsaps rocketc out of the ga te to lead the 14-rid er field into
d
tum o ne, with Billy Ha rp er, Vince Carringonc,
Ricky Bryant and Rya n Warren following. Carri ngo nc, Bryant an d Warr en slipped by Harper
on the opening circuit. Bryant then fell as Warren , Beau Svancao and Ma tthew Ped rero raced
bv. With a clear track in fron t of him, American
SiJz uki /No FearI O a kley I Pe rfo r ma nce Engineering-backed Millsa ps opened up a huge lead
and held on to it until the finish. Carringone
crOSSl."XI the finish line second, with Svancao and
Ped re ro rounding o u t the top four spots after
Warren crashed on the final lap , remounting to
place fifth .
In mota two, Millsaps o nce again g rabbed
the early lead , with Bryant and Carringone following. Millsa ps turned on the aft erburners and
raced all alo ne out fron t to score the easy win
ahead of Bryant, Ca rringone. warren and Justin
Bryant.
Mi llsaps la ter ret urned to top both motes in
the 80cc (7-11) race over jus tin Bryant and T.j.
RhoneHi.
Suzu ki-mounted Steve Du mo nd also to pped
tw o classes at this round of the series , w inning
the 250cc B and Over 30 classes.

Andrew Hull was flat o ut hau lin g at Wayne
Cou nt y Raceway in Frid ay night racin g action,
taking impressive wins in the 125cc No vice a nd
Schoolboy classes. About 150 rid ers took to th e
speedway's infield for the Competition Riders of
America po int-paying event, which seems to be
growing in popularity, as the q uick and fast raeing is drawing a lot of attention in its inaugural
year.
Bull had his Su zuki humming through the
tight a nd fast sec tions of the track, taking the
12Scc C and School boy-class win s with ve ry
good come fro m-behind rides in both motes.
In 125cc Novice racing actio n, Hull had to
wo rk throu gh a pac k of rid ers in bo th motes. In
mo to o ne, Jim my Schneide r took the ea rly lead,
wit h a gro u p of riders dici ng it ou t behind him .
David Yo u ng ns a nd Hull w ere o n the mo ve,
passi ng the ir wa y to the front. Hull motored on
to the wi n, with Yo un gas ta kin g seco nd a nd
Schneider thi rd .

holesh ot , w hile Hull was aga in stuck in tr affic.
Hull had a rea lly nice ou tside line throug h the
turns, carving up the sma ll berms to moto r in to
the lea d on the fin a l lap an d take the overa ll
wi n, w ith Qui m per seco nd overall and Sch ne i'd er third overa ll in a tig ht battl e to the end .
The Dou ble brothers tried to stop Hull in the
Schoolboy class, as brothers Cra ig and Keith,
along wi th Mike Lucas" were going fast and furi ous. Hull emerged as the victor in both rnotos,
with Lucas ta king seco nd ove rall and Craig
Double claimi ng th ird overa ll ahead o f his
brother Keith .
A la rge turnout of riders in th e 60cc class
made for some exciting racing. Kyle Gills pu t his
Kaw asaki int o the winner's circle with double
moto wins. Johnny Delbalso took second. with
Josh Snyder taking third. Aaron Morgan took
fourth place, ahead of Allen [ones .

After gating third in the first moto in the Before
The Hill race at Wash ougal MX, B.1ttlegrou nd,
Washin gt on 's Travis Mu rphy patientl y made his
way to the fron t of the class to take the mota win,
ahead of yo u ng KTM 125 pil o t Ro ry Su lliva n
from Estacad a, Or ego n. Early in the seco nd mot o,
Sul!i\"an railed the outside of the ~ tu ms to overtake Murphy for the lead. Sullivan pu lled ou t a
six-bike-Iengt h lead . Murphy had to ada p t to the
concl'pt of followin g, but a cou ple laps were all
th at was req uired befor e his own pa ce mov ed
him closer to the kid . Then Mu rph y backed it
do w n a notch and pulk-d his Pro Caliber Suzuki
to the side of the track to talk with his mechan ic,
a nd then pull ed out of the race for good.
Sulliva n we nt on to w in in front of the rest of
the tou g h field .
It tu rns out that the one-way va lve mounted
o n Murphy' s gas -tan k overflow tube fell off a nd
he was d renched from -the wais t do wn with pn.."mix. He hustled to change clothes and make the
last moto of the day, the 250cc A l B class.

In the first 250cc Intermediate moto, Suzukimou nted Ryan Metzler snaked the hcleshot an d
peaked in fron t ofa lar ge field of qua lity riders,
pulling an im pressive lead and taki ng the win .
The usually fast-s tarting Travis Murphy was the
las t to round the first tu m . This se t up an incredible charge that took Murph y from last to seco nd bv the end of the mota.

Murphy and Storm's pace was a couple of seconds fas ter per lap than that of the pro riders o ut
on the track a t the same time . Murphy s tood his
g ro und a nd too k the win, but he ag reed that
"the Sto rm was looming."

Bryce Stewart set sail to a clean 1-1 rnotn sweep in
the 50cc (4-6) Modified class at the final round of
the Hot Summer Night Series at Perris Raceway.
When the gate dropped. Stewart snagged the
holcshot, with Dakota Garner in second and
Justin Jeffers in third. Stewart extended his lead,
which left Gamer and Jef fers to do battle for scc-'
o nd. During th e battl e, Garn er w ent down ,
which a llowed Jeffers to secure second. At th e
checkered flag, Stewart finished first, Jeffers was
second and Gamer wa s third.
In th e se cond mota, Stewart grabbed th e
ho leshot again, with jeffers in SL'COnd and Ga rner in third. Gamer passed Jeffers early an d set
his sights on Stewart, steadily closing the gap.
Wi th Ga rner still about three seconds behind
him, thi s did n't bother Stewart. Des pite Ga mer's
cha rge , time ran out, and Stewa rt took the win,
w ith Ga mer in seco nd and Jeffers in th ird .
