Hleb o, indeed , got va luab le track tim e by po sting a victor y in the 600cc Expert main event. Hlebo fended off the race-long challenges from last year's Hot Shoe National winner Eli Price th roughou t the 12. la p fi nal to lead Price a nd Oregon ' s Ryan Anderson on to pod ium posit ions, bu t more importantly, to gai n morn enturn head ing into the Nationa l. Hlebo and Price were winners of the tw o 600cc Exp er t preli m in ari es , and they u tilized th eir choice p icks on the fron t row to trail fast start er Ron Wa ters into turn one at the unl eashi ng of the 12rid e r fi na l. Hl ebo a n d Price wo u ld qu ickly d rop the Na tio na l nu mb er 30, Wat er s, back to th ird , then spend the rem aining II laps in a wheel-to-wheel duel. Lehman and Beach wo u ld do ba ttle again in the 50cc Sen ior final, altho ugh this time it wo uld be in a confrontation for second place, as the AMA 50cc Amateu r Nationa l Champio n, Eva n Aro nso n, main tained a large ad vantage to the finish ahead of Lehm an, wh o again wou ld ge t the upper ha nd on LEM-m ounted Beach for second place. Or egon 's Nick Oh ge started off the 1999 seaso n as a consistent top-three finisher, but has since turned into the 80cccl a s s dom in ator. O hg e led Derrick Oq uist, Chris Calorie, Kenneth Han sen a nd Eric DeBoer in a clo se-knit pack , battling behind O hge for second in the e ig h t- r id e r fi nal.
