Gmth led the entire field all of the first lap u ntil he was passed by a number of riders in the d ouble -section, in cl ud in g Ko eni g and De-Otis. Koenig led to th e finish . Par enteau ran as high as second un til he we nt down in the doubles. At the fini sh , it w as Koeni g , DcO tts, Paren teau , "C raz y" Dave Hencir and Sch u lze. Kevin Cappello blazed over the top on his KX250 in an t"ye-o pe ning 4.789 seconds on his firs t-rou nd ride, good enough by far fo r the class win. Pro-Valvebacked Bow ma n proved to have the horsepower as he escaped the firs t tum w ith a three · bikelength lead . In tow were David Trt.t.t1, Kreutzer '' and Gregory Goe r!. Bowman pu t a comfortable d is tance on seco nd pla ce. As th e lead ers du ket.i it out, a battl e eru pt ed at the back o f the pack bt.,tween Vickie Henn, Too Tech -b ack ed Dean Townsend an d Cather ine Sanchirico. Townsend, a yo u ng 66, pulled ou t all the sto ps as he doubled past Hen n to SI.'Cu re dgh th. Me an while, u p fro nt , Kreu tze r a nd Treen beg a n to ch ip a way a t Bowma n' s lead. With three tu rn s to go, the duo had ca ug h t Bowman and were attem p ting to pa ss, bu t Bowman kept them a t bay for th e vic tory, Kreutzer and Trt.'e'n took a close second and thi rd . Behind Billin gs, T ownsen d a n d Henn were t rading plastic. Townsend step ped up a not ch to secure eighth. Bowman, in the lead , was under attack fro m Kreutze r, who w as a tt em p tin g to ge t a ro u n d Bowman fo r the o ve ra ll. YZ- m o u n ted Go erl joined in th e fig h t, m.lking it a th ree-way dogfight for the lead . Kreutzer made hi s move d own th e front stretch d irect ly in front o f th e g ra nd · stands, gra bbing a handful of throttle and taking the lead away fro m Bowman over the finish-line tabletop. Bo w m a n did not g ive up without a figh t, though, and shadowed Kr eutzl'r fo r th e remaining laps, \d th C oerl, in third, puttin g the pr~s ure on. At the conclusion, the trio wa s separatl.-d by less th an a bike length, w ith Kreu tzer taki ng the checkers, Bowman ho lding on to sec ond and Goe rllocking down third. Results BEG: 1.
