Thompson post ed an impressive three out of four mot o victories en route to overall win s in both the 125 and 250cc Intermed iate classes d ur ing rou nd one of the Sunstar Sprockets C MC Tran s -Ca l Se ries, h eld at G le n Helen Racewav Park . The 125cc In term ed iate class was the week's lar gest, with a field of 37 racers. The tw o eig ht-lap motos wo uld req uire racers to get a good sta rt if they hop ed for success . Team FMF racer Chris Tocco also had a good start and ran inside the top thr ee, w hile heavy favori te Thompso n was cha rg ing throu gh th e field . Ju st when it a p pea re d th at a co nfro ntation wo u ld eru p t for the lead, bad luck struck for O'C onner. "I watched him come into this corne r a litt le too fast ," Thompson sai d . "The tu rn was dry a nd his ba ck w heel slid out." Thompson took over the number -one s po t a n d w ent on to a co m ma n d ing lead . Wh en the checker flag waved , it was all Thompson , on his Pro Circuit / Thou sand Oa ks Kawasaki, follow ed bv Turbo Reif, hard-charging "college boy;' Tim Weigand, Jaso n Wood and Bra ndo n Milstead. Th ompson returned late r in the d ay for a pair of un contested moto wins in the 250cc Intermedi ate class , in whi ch he topped Turbo Reif, Jason Wood , Sean Thornton and Kevin Townsend .
