It was evide nt by lap two of the first moto th at Penta a nd Moor e wou ld be the riders to beat , as they argued ove r the lead a good 20 sec- • onds ahea d o f Ryan Caffey , w ho was ru nning third. Moo re ga ined the uppe r hand at the mid way po in t a nd sta rted to put a litt le dis tance between himself an d Penta. Caffe y came un de r fire fr om th e Ho nd a- m ou n ted duo o f Justi n Murp hy and james Beese, making it an in teresting race for third p lace. Moore was on fire and he g ree ted the checkers first with nea rly 15 second s to spare over Pe nta. Mur ph y finally found .1 way arou nd Caf. fey to finish third, wit h Beese follo wing suit to drop Caffey to fifth by the end of the moto. YZ250-mou nted Penta edged out Moor e a nd Scott Klaers for the second -mote holes hot. Within a la p, Moo re was s how ing Pent a his front fender in the corners, just looking for a p lace to pass. A lap later, Moore came out from u nderneat h the over-a nd -unde r section with the lead . Penta pu lled. up nex t to Moor e on the follow ing straight an d forced. his \"\'ay undern eat h in the next turn to grab the advantage. Moo re got a little anx ious on the exit of the comer and tagged. Penta 's back whee l an d went down. By the time Moor e reco vered a nd got under way aga in, Penta had a 15-seco nd cushion . Beese had been wo rking up from a bad start and was ru nning third but couldn ' t ca p ita lize on Moor e's misfor tun e. Moure actually knocked a couple of seco nds off Penta's lead during the remaini ng la ps, bu t it was still Penta a ll by himself at the checkers to sew ,u p the ove rall.
