Rollercoaster R Tour Supercross Series acing Round 15 White wins at Shelby Supercross Steven White leads the start of the Unlimited C/O race at the Supe rcross in Shelby, North Carolina. By Barbara Willia ms Photo by Loren Will iams SHELBY NC,AUG. 14 , awasa ki-mounted Steven White of Pi sgah Fore st , North Carolina, took the Unlimited C /D class by force at ro u nd 15 of the Roll ercoas ter Raci ng Tour Su percross Series. White also placed third in the 250cc C con stest, af ter a spi rited battle for the lead with Jesse Baker and Kyle Henson. Nearly 240 riders gathered at Shelby's Clevela nd County Fai rgrounds to enjoy a ni gh t of perfect racing - d a rk a nd cool, in w elco m e contrast to th e afternoon. "The wea ther her e has been very hot, with pl en ty of heat advisories, and pretty dry , too ," co m mented JM X Ra cing prom oter Joe Williams. "Thund erstorms can pop up ou t of nowhere in these condi tions, a nd we thou ght one was go ing to get us this even ing . But it turned out to be o nly a nice, cool breez e." Whi te's 250cc C q ua lifier start wa s K impressive: first to tum one - and first straight over the berm. While the entire fie ld roared through the bow l turn , White sheepishly picked up his KX25O, rem oun ted an d began the ha rd work of coming back from d ead last. He made it bac k up to sevent h in the four-lap dash, while Henson romped to the qualifier win. White's s ta rt in the 250 cc C main event was much better, tu cked in behind holeshot grabber Jesse Baker, w ho leads th e Rollercoaster To u r p oints chase. Henson a nd returnee Sh annon Logan came u p to join the fun , temporaril y d ispl a cin g W hite to fo u r t h. Bu t White wasn't go in g to take that lying d own, and all the 250cc C acti on began to hap- p en behi nd Baker, who blissfull y cruised in fron t, oblivious to the turmoil . in his wake. White worked on Logan for a couple of laps, finally powering past and into thi rd , all se t to chip away at Henson. While Logan tried unsuccessfully to make a return pass on White, White's efforts to put Henson back one slot were also in vain, even though he cou ld get a w heel on Kyle. At the checkered flag, Baker ca me across first, followed by Henson, White, Log an a n d Bra d Hamrick, w ho overca me the worst start of th e main even t to finis h fifth . Though it fea tu red a m uch larger field, the Un limited C /D contest went be tter for Whi te.
