He is cu rrently n ot u sin g th e number-on e pl at e fro m las t ye a r thanks to Sebasti en To rtelli, and he .w on ' t be next yea r either due to his injuries - or possib ly the rid ing of Pit Beir er and Fred eri c Bolley, Previou s to th at , G reg Albe r ty n showed him real spee d in both 1993 and '94. We' ve go t to ge t to eig h th place in the cu rren t sta ndings befor e a cu rrent AM A 250c c Na tiona l r id er sho ws on th e en try list - Larry Ward . And I wo n' t even bring up the low-l yin g Jerem y McGrath . With a bso lu te ly n o dis res pec t to Larry Ward, a rid er winning the Budds Creek race could never consider himself a co nqueror of Ame rica n mot ocross and definitel y not the best in the wo rld . Exce p t for ma yb e Albertyn, w ho has alread y proven himself in Europe and here in America. The race will be a good one as eve ry motocross ra ce is, but pl eas e keep to the facts. The rac e is jus t an ot her round in the 250cc World Championshi p and o n un r eg is tered scoo ters. Two were from the Kmart pit crew. No t on ly that, bu t I also saw a Kmart person riding a mountain bike around the pla ce. Again, I as k , le t' s ge t thi s mess cleared up before ne xt year . If Mario had b een treated like Kevin; the shit wo uld have hit the fan. Patrick Shiplet tootsie739@ aol.com I am writing eve rybody I can think of to re port thi s matter . On Saturdays, the Learnin g Ch a n nel broad ca st s a show ca lled " Pa ra m e d ics ." As th e n am e im p lies, this is a rea l-li fe, rid e-al on g show dep icting the life of these d edi cat ed first responders. On Saturday, Augus t 28, the ep isod e "Rus h Hou r" highlighted the Los Ange les Fire Department: During the coverage, a squ ad respond ed to a car-mo torcycle accident. Upo n a rrivi ng, one o f LAFD' s "finest" said , "This is what he des erv es fo r rid in g a moto rcycl e ." I tru ly hop e this opinion is not one shared by many on the LAFD . Ho pefully, you can spread the wo rd about this bias towards mot orcyclists. I feel the LAFD needs to explain this type of attitu de. John Page jwpage@hayes bra ke.co m I' m co nstan tly d efend in g p rof ession al a thletes' salaries by remind in g people that they have to consider the cons tan t traveling, hours of practice, training regim ens, injuries, sho rt-ter m careers, and years of prepa ration - but I'm beginning to wond er why I' m such a staunch su pporter. . I'm not the smartest cat on the block, but th e Un ite d Sta tes G r a n d Prix of Motocross so unds like it shou ld be one of the most im portant races of the yea r. Why it's bein g shunned by thr ee of the four major manufacturers and their top riders leaves me a bit pu zzled . Jon ath an Beasley (the race promoter) has alrea dy taken one bath and now it appears that the peo ple who wo uld benefit most are going to let him tak e anot he r . SoU:.:.: ~ Last word on the cuffing I ha ve an update on " Ha n dcu ffed ' in Ohio." I went to theCART races at MidOhio on Friday the 13th for pra ctice. As Shelley Harris gu essed, there wa s a total differen ce in a t ti tu de for th e non licensed rid ers on this da y. The first perso n I saw on an unregi stered s coote r was Mar io Andretti, who rod e the scooter in front of at lea st four M id -O hio secu rity people. In the five minutes th a t: I was in the area in which Kevin Schwantz had been in, I saw no less than eight other people Greg Albertyn, and the rest of Team Suzuki, will represent the AMA at Budds Creek.
