Pingree, Ramsey, Vohla nd , Sellards and Motow orld of EI Cajo n's Andy Harrin gt on se ttled into the next few position s as Carm ichael began to pull away. Ron cad a and Casey Johnson tan gled in the second tu rn a nd had to start their cha rge fro m the back of the pack. Vohlan d kept his sights on the lightnin g, fast Carm ichael as he was stretchin g his lead a nd ma de hi s move b y Ramse y fo r th ir d in th e hills o n la p three. Roncada had put on a -nice cha rge and was up to 13th by lap four. Vohla nd was closin g in on Pingr eee and a lap lat er he mad e a nice ins ide pass in a sweeping uphill corner for seco nd p lace . A s th e tw o w ent a t it , Ca rmic hael gained ev en mor e distan ce and had seven-second lead over Vohland a t the 12-minute mark of th e 30minute-plus-two-lap moto . Four laps later, Ca rm ichae l had doubled his lead to 14 seconds as Vohland held down second . Pingr ee stayed with Vohland as Ramsey rod e in fourth. Sellar d s, McCormi ck , Lytl e, H arringto n, Fonseca and Wey freight-train ed together for a fe w laps until Wey mad e his move. Mo to XXX's Travis Pres ton and Fon seca go t together in a tight corn er a nd bo th wen t down , letting Wey move by. Wey, who wa s ridi ng a severely vibra ting bike wi th a bro ken head-stay, eventu all y passed Harrington and Lytle to move up to seventh . With th e tw o -l ap bo ard o u t, Ca rmic hael backed a bit off the pace but still had a comfo rtable margin ove r Vohland , Ron cad a mov ed by Wey for seven th th en pa sse d Se lla rds, w ho went d own on one of the roug h downhills, for sixth. Carmich a el cro ss ed th e finish lin e tw o laps later with his fis t in the ai r, knowing th at he had jus t clinched his third consecutive 125cc National Championship. Vohland came next w ith Pin gree, Ramse y, McCormi ck , Roncada, Sellards and Wey rounding ou t the top eight. "The la s t co uple of weeks had me ner vous becau se a lot of th in gs have bee n going wrong, but it felt real goo d to get tha t good sta rt," Carmichael said from the team tra iler . "The track was good and the weather is perfect. Three cham pionships in a ro w, it feels good ." " I fe el th a t I'm co mi ng ba ck to myself," Vohla nd said af ter .the moto . "My arms kind of pumped up and I've go t all these blisters on my han d. I just need to ge t off the line with Ricky be tter next moto." Pingree's s te llar s ta rt allowed t he Suzuki rid er to stay up fron t all mo to long. "I kind of rod e in Ricky's pace and I stayed up there to the finish ," Pin gree said of his third -place ride. "I d id n't get tired at all so tha t is a good sign too." Rams ey was not all that happy wi th fourth . "I mad e a lo t of mi stakes ou t the re and was losing a lot of ground in the back section . I'd ge t frustra ted and then ma ke so me mor e mi stakes, but I know w hat I' ve go t to w ork o n ne xt mo to." Voh la nd , McCormick a nd We y w ere back in 10th , 11th and 12th. Before the riders even co m p leted the first lap, Carmichael nudged his way . by Ramsey on the inside of a downhill off-camber corne r for the lead . Ramse y end ed the first lap in second, followed by Ping ree, Ron cada, Casey Johnson , FMF / Honda ' s Danny Sm ith an d Sellards. Ron cad a moved by Pingr ee for third on the seco nd lap setting his sig hts on Ram s e y . Pingree rounded out the top five when scores were tallied. a MOT02 Coming off a stron g third-pl ace finish, Pingree nail ed the sta rt the seco nd tim e ou t. Ramsey, Carmichael and Ron cad a moved into position qu ickly while sweeper later that lap and lost s evera l positions as Roncada mov ed into second and th en be g an to cl o s e in on Ca rmicha el. Roncada was the man on the move as he gai ned some gro un d on Carmichael. Johnson moved by Pingree and Ramsey an d was in third while Pingree d ro pped fro m fou rt h to 11th in a ma tter o f one lap. A lap later, Joh nso n went down in a corner and was re passed by several of his rivals. At the halfwa y point of th e race it was Carmichae l with a five-second lead over Roncad a. Vohla nd was up to third after passin g Ramse y, and Smit h was up to fifth. Sellards and McCo rmick were goi ng a t it once again, while Wey an d Joh J1S<)n followed. Ca rmichael d ug a little deeper to ge t so me more distance on Roncad a, and he did so throughout the next few laps as the lead ers go t into lapped traffi c. Vohland and Ram sey held third and fou rth with Sellards now in fifth after getting b y hi s teammate , Smith , w h o w e nt down . Carmichael cru ised the fina l few laps and crossed for his second mot o victory on the day. Roncada held stro ng to finish second, wit h Voh land and Ram sey coming in next. "Tha t was a fun mot o," Carmichael said from the p odium. "Step ha ne w as rid in g good and we wer e clicking off so me good lap times ." Roncada ag reed. "1 was rid in g good and was on his ass for half the mot o but mad e a few mistakes and he pulled away." Ron cad a said . "It's pr ett y hard to catch him when he pulls awa y, so [ backed it off a little." Ron cada was not the on ly rider on the track that has gro wn accus tomed to finis hing runner-up to Ca rm ichael.
