Collis pulled away from the field in elimina tions , running a pair of 7.24s in the opening rounds befor e ge tting by a red-lighting Shawn Gann in the semis, with a 7.28. On the other sid e of the ladder, Brown put down a series of 7.29s, including a 7.293/184 to get by Ga st in the semis. Brown got the holeshot in the final a nd recorded his fourth-straight 7.29 but was outpaced by Collis, who hit a world-dass 7.205/183 to take the win . Team Kawa saki factory rider Rickey Gadson p ractically locked up his third Su perbike number-on e p late with his nitrou s-injected ZX-7R, taking his fifth win in a row . Gadson was the fast qualifier, a t 8.65 /1 51, followed closely by Michael Iantorno on Bil l Tamucci 's GSXR750. Gadson, who ran low e.t, for the class at 8.40/157 in round tw o, met Iantorno in the fina l and g ot the win light wit h an 8.49 as lantomo struggled to an off-pace 9.10-second time. Team Gree n rid er Marty Ladwig had anoth er impre ssiv e s ho w ing in th e Kerker 600cc SuperSport class, taking his second win of the season as w ell as running low e.t. for the class a t 10.169 seco nds on his ZX-6R. Ladwig qualified number one at 10.28, followed bv fellow Kawasaki team member s Chip Ellis and Rick e y Ga d o n , both in th e 10.30s. Defendin g seri es cha m p Keith Dennis, w ho had his Chicago wi n taken away due to tec h nica l infraction s, sw itc hed over to a Yamah a R6 for the eve nt and qualified fourt h on the bike wi th a 10,43. Technical ins pections have become d e rigu eur in the 600cc class this seaso n. At Ind y , Ellis w as disquali fied a fte r round one whe n his bike didn't meet the minimum gro u nd clear anc e, and semifinalist Brock Davidson lost points and purse and w ithd rew when he admitted having back-dated parts. Ladwig wa s the class of the field , setting low e.t, of every round and cru isin g into the final wh ere he met Gadson . The Muzzy-backed Gads on go t the holeshot in the fina l, but Ladwig motored pa st h im by th e 330-foot mark and pulled away through the traps, getting his second win in the last three races, 10.23 to 10.38. Chip Ellis was the big winner in Top Eliminator , qualifying the Copy Adams SRAD-bodied GS1150 on the pole with a 7.73 /179 and taking the win with a final-round victor y over Matt Smi th on the Timblin Cha ssis Suzuki, 7.81 to 8.11. Other spo rts man winners include Stacey Ra ym ond in Top Gas, Sco tt Wall in Super Camp and Tom Sudman in Super Ga s.
