the three (and fastest ) heats to sit on the
inverted pole position, a place neither
Rickman nor Brown wanted.
Rickman, who had wo n the class the
previous nig h t, initially led , b ut was
bu mped ou t of the position coming out
of turn two by Yode r, but no harm, no
foul.
"He left me a hole, not much of one,
so I took it," Yod er said . "That was all I
need ed . I thou ght it wa s a pretty clean
pass."
Yoder main tained the lead from that
point to the wave of AMA Distri ct Referee To m Olson's checkered flag , leaving Rick ma n to squ abble w it h Brown

an answer for all of Varnes' advances.

South Dakota 's Dusty Faulds, a Rookie
Expert, and Washington's jerry Southworth . Oregon's Rex Fisher found the
conditions deplorable and pulled o ff

the locals something to cheer about, as
for the second nigh t in a row, Sou th

his han d s full with cha llenges from
Wyoming's jake Latimer, Vollmer did
fend off a ll of th e Honda rider's
