Shearer mows 'em down at CRC Motocross By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA, JULY17 KT M rid er J a ~ on Shea re r eme rged the 250cc Beginner-class overa ll winne r wit h a pe rfec t 1-1 score at Californi a Racing Club's Satu rday night motocross, he ld a t Los Angeles County Ra cewa y. Shea re r wat ched Verseput's lines for a lap before trading pla ces with him. On ce out front , Shea rer slowly pulled awa y for th e wi n ove r Versep ut . Ros s go t arou nd Penta at one point, but Penta reclaimed third before the checkers fell. In the seco nd mot o, Penta abscon d ed with the ho lcsho t. o ver Shear er and Vcrseput. Shear er camped out on Penta's back fender be fore mak in g his way in to the lea d on la p 10 of wh a t wou ld even tually beco me a 20-la p marathon. From that poin t on, it was a ll Sh eare r fo r a sweep of the class. Pe nta s tayed o u t of Ross' grasp to earn the second -place trop hy. Scott Minster and Tony Pulli am a rgued over the lead in the first Ju nior Vet Novice mot a u ntil Ed Ber na l dropped th em to seco nd and third , respectivel y, at th e midway point ; they would finis h in that ord er . Todd Smart ca me from way back for fourth, over Cecil Avery . Berna l had his work cut out for him afte r he com pleted the opening lap of moto tw o in last pl a ce . Pu lliam ran out fr ont until lap three, wh en Bern a l picked him off after slicing his way up throu gh the entire field. Berna l continued on for a convincing win. Smar t passed Pu lliam wit h time ru nni ng out to sew u p secon d overall on a 4-2 sco re. Pulliam's co nsis tent 3·3 rid es got the better of Minster's 2-4, for th ird , Ricky Kroll was un touc hable in the first 80cc Begin ne r rnot o, goi ng w ire to wi re for the w in on hi s YZHO. Timo thy McDa niel ov erca m e a m id pack s ta rt to end up in second , a head of Casey Logan an d ja mie Lanza . T he tables were turned in mo ta tw o, wi th McDa niel controlling the lead early in the race whi le Kroll dealt with the tra ffic. Kro ll fina lly made his way up into the runner-up position at the halfway poin t, but by then there wa s no catchin g McDaniel, who went 2-1 for the ovenill.
