Foster, Banta taxi to Bishop GSC Motocross wins By Rich Willia ms B ISHOP, CA, JULY17 At the Bish op GSC Mot ocro ss, Pa t Foster a nd Cha d Banta both cru ised to wins in their respective classes . In the first combined Interm ediate/Pro race, 250cc Intermediate rider Chad Banta absconded with the ho1 eshot, only to be displa ced in the first tum by 34-year-old Vet Intermediate Doug Hoodman. Tommy Jean , riding in the 12SeeIntermed iate class, was th ird . The first Pro, riding in fourth, was professional stu nt man David Barrett, while AMA Pro Pat Foster was mired in 10th. By lap two, Jean had pulled out a huge lead, a nd Fost er had moved up to a di stant ·second . Banta was holding his own in thini, first in class, but he was being hounded by B.mett. On lap four, Foster was all over Jean, and used perfect timing in the tricky whoop section to easily pass Jean for the lead . Barrett did likewise to Banta. The first-moto finish order was Foster, Jean, Barrett and Banta. Foster, making up for his first-moto start, lL >d th e pack in mo to two, wi th Jean a nd Barrett righ t on his tail. Barrett stu ffed Jean before a lap cou ld be compleh."'d and set his sights on Foster. Bar rett appea red to gaini ng on Foste r and specta tors were lookin g fo rwa rd to II d o gfi ght be tw ee n these two fri e nds. How ev er, in hi s haste to catch Foster , Barrett stuck his front end in a tight righ t-hand berm and wt:'nt down in a heap of flesh and stee l. He remounted in last . place; for B.lTr the race was over . ctt, In the end , it was a high-flying Foster with the w in, followed by Tommy Jean, and then Banta with a very respect:l ble third, and first in class.
