SACRAMENTO, CA,JULY 10
For the second time in the 1999 Sideways Saturda ys Cal-Exp o Speed way season , Jimm y Sisemore dominated the Div ision One Scratch a nd
Han d icap ma in even ts . In th e Ha ndicap main,
Bobby Hedd en , Bob Hi cks, Jim m y "The ja mmer" Sisemo re a nd Bart Bast all.lined up across
the 50-y a rd line. Ten ya rds in fro nt sat Ch ad
Felicio, and Robert Curry rou nd L out the field
'CI
on the 30. Bast was the first rider to move at the
start; in fact, Bast actually mo ve9 bejore the starting ta pes were released .
"I co u ldn't bel iev e l ,got away w ith that
roll er ," said Bas t after t he event. " I al most
passed Chad before th e firs t co rne r. I had to
back off OC"CilUSC if I passed him before the first
turn, they' d sure ly have sto pped it."
Wi th Cu rry in the lea d fro m the s ho rtes t
yardage, it took Bast only a lap a nd a ha lf to
move un de r Felicio and Curry on the d eceivin g·
Iy grippy blu e ins ide groov e. Wh ile Bast was
wor king on Feli cio a nd then Curry, Sise mo re
was following suit and moving up, looking for a
way inside of Bast, which he found as the tw o
circled the track for the fourth lap .
"I really like this track," said the smiling Jammer as he clutched both of hi. main-event trophies
after the race. '1 have a lot of confide nce here. Ed
did a great job with the bike and it really showed."
Once Sisemore muscled inside ,of Bast, it was
clear sailing to the checkered flag. Bast finished
in second place, and Curry a nd Felicio held on
to third and fou rth. Hed d en was fifth, an d his
newly returned teammate Hicks was sixth.
The Scratch IThlin staged with Si..c;emo re on the
pole, Billy Jarmiro in two, Hed den in lane thr ee
and Bast on the outside. \Vhen Sisemore drew the
pole, it immediately put the !'Lost of the field at a
bit of a disadvantage, conside ring the way Sisemore was rid ing and the nature of the hu g-thepole-for-dear-life condition of the California State
Fairgr ounds oval. Tru e to form, th e Ja m mer
jumped ou t in front a nd led the talen ted field
throu gh the first turns. Janniro wa s the seco nd
away and on the throttl e for the next 3 1/ 2 laps ,
tryin g to catch the fleeing Sisemore. &15t ran third
u ntil mid way thro.ugh th e final lap, when he
unseated Jann iro from his third-pla ce points spo t.
When B<1st took second away from Janniro , it left
the fastest Aubwn resident with doubl e sccondplace finishes in the mai ns. Janniro held o n to
third and Hedden headed home fourth.

Im med iately following the 50cc rela y race

Ada ms was up front aga in, along with Gorma n

ht.'St lines and keep ing Adams at bay. Hamel continued on a steady rise to the front, picking off a
rider per lap, and by the wh ite-flag lap he was up
to third, behind Schaeffer and Ada ms. When the
checkered flag flew, Schaeffer d aimed the w in,
and his 2~ 1 finishes gave him the ove rall. Ada ms
held on for second ove r Hamel, but was edged
out to third overall on the evening, as Hamel's 13 scores we re be tte r than his 3-2. Gorma n an d
