In th e firs t SOcc (7-11) m ot o, Davin P rice g ra b b ed th e h ol esh o t. Su zukim ounted Coo ke , Jak e Po sey and Matt Scarboro w ere all in tow. Price' s lead wa s sho rt- live d , ho w ever, as an earlymoto fall forced him to play catch-up the rest of the moto. Cooke th en assu med th e lead, w ith Posey hot o n h is heels . C la y Will ett slip ped past Scarboro in to third by midm ot o. Posey closed to wi thi n s triking d ista nce and m ade a move on Cooke entering the triple-triple sec tion. As the two entered the first set of triples, Posey w as right be side Cooke. Both went for the double. Coo ke got ov er it cleanly but Pose y cased the jump, g iving the Suzuki rid e r a s lig h t advantage . Posey remained close the res t of the moto bu t never mounted a nother challenge. As th e checkered flag fell, Cooke too k the wi n, with Pos ey a clo se seco nd . Price was able to move into the final podium position late in th e mot o but wa s unable to m a ke a run on th e leaders . Willett took fourth and Sca rboro rounded ou t the top five. The co m p lex io n of th e co u r se changed completely for moto two aft er a brief bu t hea vy storm made negotiating the tr ack quite treacherou s . The s lick conditions did not seem to bother Price, as he again grabbed the holeshot. Scar- A • en en en 42 boro gated in second , with Pos ey, Willett and Cooke giving chase. Pri ce looked to have th e tr ack mastered until a s ligh t mi scu e ju st p a st halfwa y . That w a s a ll th e Ya ma ha mounted Posey needed and he mast er full y worked his w ay past Scarboro and o nto the rear fend er of the Suzuki pilot. Cooke then moved up to challenge Scarboro for third . Wit h th e laps winding d own, Pos ey had the win in his hands, only to see it slip away in "Chester's Hairpin" as he fell victim to th e di sintegrating cond iti ons . Price na vi gated by th e d o wned rider and took the win in moto tw o. Th e . overall was up for grabs now, as Cooke had displaced Scarboro and moved int o third . P o sey h ad a li tt le troubl e remountin g, and Cooke m ade his w ay by for seco nd and the ove ra ll w in. Posey recovered for third, with Scarboro ma intainin g fourth. Fifth w ent to Will ett, who never came to terms w ith the track. Gating poorly in m oto tw o, Summey still wen t 1-2 for th e overa ll wi n. Matt Barn es took second overa ll. Barnes had bad luck inmoto one bu t made up for it in mo to two, taki ng the holesh ot and jettin g away for the win. Rounding ou t the top three wa s Yamaha-mo un ted Aaron Sta ncil, w ho took the runner-up position in m ot o one an d -a third in the se co nd outing . Summey's second class win came in the 125 B division. Summey had to contend with the likes of Dani el Tesh and Doug Earls in moto one. Both w ere close eno ug h to capitalize on a mi scue, bu t Summey would never falter. Stancil and Barnes gave chase' in th e seco nd race. The racer from Stanley, North Carolina , again p ro ve d to be too to u g h for th e competition. Summey went 0-1) for the da y. Stancil took the ru nn er-u p po sitio n w ith 4-2 scores, and th ir d overa ll was Doug Earls, going (3-4). On e o f the more heavily con tes te d classes of th e series has been the 250cc Nov ice, a n d Su n day's even t was no excep t ion . Alvino Ga rci a seiz ed th e holeshot in the firs t mota bu t lost several positions after he and Mark Valcore bum pe d co ming o ut of the first turn. Valeo re led the field comi ng out of tu m two, followed closely by Jake Yetta and Brett Da ug he rty. At th e end of th e firs t la p , Yello h a d ta ken the le a d , wit h Daughe rty and Valeore in tow . The rest of th e pack was le ft in th e ir d ust. Daughe rty ca ptu red th e lead o n lap th ree, blasting past Yetto in fro nt of the tow er and leavin g Yetta and Valeore to battle. Valeore con tin ued to look for an opening a n d fo un d o ne in Bu dd's Creek , g rabbing th e n umber-two positio n. Bot h Da ugherty and Valeore got cau g ht in lappers d uring the last hal f of the w hit e-fla g lap, elimi nating the possibility of Valeore reclaiming first. Daugher ty crossed the finish li ne fi rst, followed by Valeore and Yetto . H
