Th e Pr emier / FMF / Ma xxis/ Extrem e-ba cked Lama stus attacked th e Marc Petersdes igned track and came away a double victor , also win ning the 12Scc Pro race . Anderson pulled the holeshot in the first mo to, followed Ryan Romey, Ryan Mortensen, Taylo r Glantz 'and Lamastus. Lamastus blitzed his way th ro ugh the infie ld sections and by the end of the rocker sections he was already int o seco nd p lace, fo llowed b y Ro mey a n d Mortensen. Romey wen t clown on the next lap and let everyone by. Anderson h ad bu ilt up a fo u r-seco n d lea d o n Lamastus, but Lamastus was making up time throu gh the long rocker section. On J the next lap, Lamastus was showing a wheel to Ander son after the doubled ouble section. The leaders were side by sid e th rou gh the infield section, and as they entered the rocker section, Anderson and Lamastus touched bars, but neither went down. Lamastus tried to cut underneath at the right-hander at the end of the rockers but Anderson had the drive coming out of th e corner and Lamastus could not clear the s tep-up do uble in front of the bleachers. Meanwhile, Steve Drew was charging from a sixth-place start on his YZ400 and just pa ss ed Mortensen for third . Anderson had five bike lengths ov er Lamastus completing the next lap, but clearly Lamastus was gaining gro u nd . On lap six, Lamastus pulled alo ngside Anderson th rough the sweep ing rh ythm sec tio n and co n tro lled th e in s ide through the double-d ouble section and grabbed the lead coming ou t of the next co rne r. Vet rid er Mik e Roth, co m ing fro m a last-place start, moved around Morten sen to take o ve r fourth . Dr ew w as gain ing gro und on second -placed An derson. As the leaders wer e ge tti ng into lapped traffic, Mortensen was able to get by Roth and secure fourth. ' O n lap II , Anderso n' succ u m bed to Drew. The checkered flag cam e out for Lamas tus, followed by Drew, An de rson , Mortensen and Roth. The second mot o started where the firs t one left off, wi th Lamastus grabbing th e lead, followed by Anderson and Dr ew. O n th e second lap, Gla n tz tried to pass Roth for fourth but go t ou t o f s ha pe in th e infiel d sectio n a n d hopped ove r the berm, almos t going in fro n t of Lama stus, who w as comin g from the finis h-line jump. That was the only excitemen t for the who le moto, as Lamas tus went unchallenged. Lamastus to ok th e m oto w in , wi th A n de rson, Drew, Roth a nd Mortensen ro u ndi ng ou t the top five. The 12Scc Intermediates put on a good sh ow fo r th e crowd as Micha el Blose and Josh Moraine battled for the o v e ra ll , with Blo se g e t tin g th e nod . C ombined with th e 12Sc c Pro cla s s, Lamastus grabbed the early lead coming down the starting area, making the right on to to the triple-d ou ble-dou ble section. Second belon ged to Blose, who was follow ed b y M or a in e, J.R. Sche ll, Matt Ste p he ns and Ja son Buggi as they all ca me clea r of th e rest of the pack, as most of the riders' were hung up in the se cond corner . Blose passed Lamastus on lap two b y g et ti n g a b etter dri ve through the rock ers and completing the pass ov er the step-up. Mo raine moved b y La m a s tu s o n lap three, Th e tw o front-ru nners, Blose an d Mor aine, br oke away fro m the res t of th e fi eld as Moraine was now sea rchi ng for a way arou nd Blose. Blo se an d M ora ine sta r te d to encounter lapped traffic at the halfway mark. Each time that Blose go t behind so meo ne, Morain e wo uld close the ga p. It wo uld be short-lived , though , as Blose go t aro und the lappers by the next corn er . Step he ns w ent ou t on la p nin e, moving Bry an Allen to ,fifth . Moraine go t the drive he needed on lap nin e as Blose got held up by lappers at the finish-line tabletop jump and Mo raine went by for the lead. Moraine was push ing hard to ge t away and his Honda was sta rting to boi l water out the radiator. Blose r eco v ered from the ea rlie r stu mble and kept th e pre ssu r e o n Moraine . O n th e w hite- flag lap, Blose w e nt by in t h e infie ld sectio n a n d secured the moto win. Moraine nailed down second , fo llowed by Lamastu s, Schell, Allen and Scott Arnold. In the seco nd moto, it was all Blose, as he took the lead rig ht ou t of the gate. Moraine was seco nd , followed by Schell, Allen and Stephens. Everyone remained , the sa me during th e moto ex cept for Stephens, who slipped back to seventh b y moto 's end . Blose held on to the chec ke rs, with Morai ne, Schell, All en and Arnold rounding ou t the top five. Buddi Bruner came up one spot short of being a double class winner . Bruner dominated bo th the 65cc (9-11) and the 65cc Open classes in all four motos, but during the second 6Scc (9-11) moto he s li d out on th e corner just past the bleachers. That opened the doo r for Jeremy Johnson, who carded a seco nd in the first mo to, to go around and ho ld on for the second- moto and the overall win . Shoaf too k wi ns in the 8Scc 0 213) wi n over a pack of 11 riders and in th e Supermini contes t ov ..r a field of nine, and th en notch ed a th ir d in th e Unlimited C/O division . Shoaf lives in nea rby Anderson, and he could have gone to tw o or three other Saturda y night races in Georgia. "We just want to race as much as we can before his Loretta Lynn' s regional qualifier d own in Georgia next week end," Shoaf's d ad commented . "Since Stephen's sponsor is here in Charlotte, we deci ded to come up. It's a good track; he'll ge t a decent workout." Although Shoaf headed the fields of' bo th mi ni classes in all laps, his speed and smoothness inspired Jordan Harrill, Isaia h Murph, Todd Nixon and up-andcomer Jere my Allison. T.J. Knight kept u p with Shoaf during the 8Scc 02-13) qua lifier, com ing across the line in second, but he wa s unabl e to sus ta in his pace in the main eve nt. "1 hurt my right wrist last wee k, and I didn't feel like I co ul d hang on we ll eno ug h to go fas ter during the ma in, " a d m itted T.J. , w hose bro th er Sco tt inju red his own rig ht wris t at the same ra ce. However, Sco tt's wrist is bro ken , so he helped to flag for this race . Harrill , Murph , Nixon and All ison m ixed it up in th eir pursuit of Shoaf. Tho ugh Stephen was out of reach , the other four horsem en had a fine ba ttle all nig ht long, end ing wit h Harrill, Murph and All iso n fin ishing 2-3-4 in the 8Scc . 0 2-13) class a nd Mu rph , Nixon a n d Chevis King taking those spots in Supermin i compe titio n. Ordinarily, riders of 8Scc mach in es are not allowed to compete in Unlimited C/O. However, Shoaf insisted he could ha ndl e it and proved that he could . Jesse Baker dominated both the qualifie r an d the ma in abo a rd hi s RM2S0, s ha do wed b y Ke v i n H e lm s on h is CR12S . Shoaf kept up with the pace until the checkered flag, the onl y 85cc racer in the class. . Co dy Robb ins is also preparing for Southe as t Region al youth competition in Geo rgia, and con quered three classes to further sha rpen his edge.
