three of the four events entered. The evt."I\t drew

Cho nging to a cz. Halkola came out an d made a
clean sweep of the Spo rtsma n 250cc lntennedia te di vision , Halk ola saw Rokon rider Jay Wahl
ge t out front in .t he Over 30 Intenned iat e class,
bu t Wa hl went ov c r the ba rs on lap two and
Halkola felt no compe titio n for the rema ind er of
the first moto. In the followi ng moto, Wahl was
a close second before sna p pi ng a cha in in the
second round , but Ha lkola aga in ra n away wi th
the event. Halkola finally showed he was mo rtal
in the Spo rtsman 500cc di \'ision, dropping to
10th ove rall.

both motos.
Phi l Ben ed ict was th e dominan t Pr emier
Ligh tweigh t ov ice rid e r. Bened ict kept BSA
pilot Jerry Sterrett at bay throug hout both molos.
Hod aka jockey Ron Less ley kept the gas on
in both motos of the Spo rtsman 12Sec Intermediate class . Lessley appeared to be the fastest rider
on the day. wh ile Husky man Mark Arsena ult
was a close second an day.
Plenty of back-and -forth action took place in
th e Sportsman 500 cc Novice contest. as Len
Gillette absconded with the holes hot. wit h O iff
Schulenberg challenging his lead at ~\'ery corner. Schul enbe rg put it toget her when it counted
and snatched the holeshot in the second mote,
and this time Gillet te was the one to apply pres-sure. but he had no luck stealing the win.
Mateo- moun ted Expert riders Greg Ca rte r
and Mike Halpin p rovided plent y of front-fend er-to-rear-tire racing action in moto one. In the
second rnoto , things started out good for Gary
Lowe r, as he grabbed the holes hot. with Halpin
in secon d an d Ca rter thi rd , Hal pin twis ted the
throttle on the long uph ill section and sto le the
lead on lap three. Ca rter m a na ge d to ge t by
Lower soon after and press ured Halpin. O n the
last lap, Ca rter ma naged to slip into the lead , but
Hal p in came back ju st before the finish line to
w in the moto and the overall.
