Josh Hansen posted a perfect 1-1 finis h in th e 80cc (14-16) a g e di visi on d espite rid ing for most of the final on a rear fla t tire. Ha nsen ' s dad is Donnie Hansen , a fam ous mo toc ross icon and race-school teacher. "Everything we nt great tod ay exce pt for that flat tire," Hansen sai d "I kn ew I had a big-en ou gh lead that if I just kept it on tw o whee ls, I wo uld win ." Thi s was the case in both the 125cc and 250cc Inte rmediate classes, w hich were w on by form er m in i champs Billy Laninovich (I25cc Intermediate) and Ben Ridd le (250cc Intermediate). Of the two , the 250cc Intermediate clas s wa s perhaps the most exciting, as the Kaw a saki tri o o f Ben Rid dl e , Andr ew Sh o rt a n d Joshua Woods waged a classic three-way bat tle for the lead , w ith Riddle coming ou t on top afte r a daring last-lap pass . Early-ra ce lea d er Chase Reed had p robl ems an d d ropped to fou rth , followed by Suzuki ace Jesse Ketchum. Bill y Lani n ovi ch was the su rp rise win ner of the 125cc Interm ed iate class, taking control of the field on his superfast Yamaha YZI25 . Ben Riddle and Josh Woo ds both had the speed to win, bu t cras hes relegated the two East Coast racers to sixth a nd seven th , respectively. Ins tead, And rew Short came fro m the back of the pack to recor d a strong second, while Ryan Mor ais, who was a con sistent fro nt-ru nner, settled into third , in front of Sean Hamblin. Dou g Duba ch an d KT M's La nce Smail were no dou bt the kin gs of Mammoth Mountain in Pro ac tion. Dubach recorded th ree class win s, all in convincing style, topp ing the 250cc, Four-Stroke and Vet classes. Dubach, at age 35, wa s awesome to watch as he chose lines with incredible accuracy around the course. Equally as impressive wa s last yea r ' s unofficial Mammoth Mountain king, Lance Smail. The factory KTM pil ot took home top hon ors in the 125cc and Open Pro classes . Sma il's vic tory was particul arl y im pressive since he had only been back riding for a few weeks after br eaking his foo t three mon th s ag o. Sma il schooled th e kid s i n th e 125cc P ro class a n d smo ked the Mammoth regulars in the Open class with perfect mo to scores . Th e Women ' s cl ass saw a clas h between Kristy Shealy and Tania Satchwell d uring bo th motos of compe titio n. Satchwell wo n the first mo to but Shea ly came back figh tin g in the all-impo rta n t seco nd moto for the overall win . "I was mad tod ay," Sheal y sa id . "I was riding fast and I am finally feelin g like I am ge tting so me of myoid speed back." Sheal y topped SatchweII, A ngie Kuentjes, Sh ell y Kann and Sed anna Losey for the day's top five overall finishes.
