Editor Isle of Man vent I am wri ting concerni ng the four-page Isle of Ma n TT article (Ju ne 30, Iss ue #25). I kn ow and under stand everyone has a right to thei r ow n opinion, but I w a s app all ed , chag r ined, and ve ry tak en aback by th e negative coverage Stephen Burns gave the Isle of Man TT races this year. Thi s type of covera ge is why mo tor cycle ra cin g has suc h a negative im age in th e United Stat es as opposed to the rest of th e world . I am sure my letter w ill not be th e o nly one you re ceive regardin g th is a rticle . Has Mr . Burns eve r raced th e TT? If not, he's an ou ts ider comm entin g o n so me t h in g h e know s no thing abou t. I'd li ke to see him av e rage ove r 105 mph fo r 38 miles. Bett er ye t, have Mr . After seven AMA Superbike titles, th ree unbelievable Dayt ona 200 victories, 37 World Superbike vic to ries , a Wor ld Su perbike titl e and a Su zu ka 8 Hou rs victory with Mr. Rob Muzz y, wha t do you want? Ending neg otiations ! We kn ow there are two sides to every s to ry and we Mu zz y /Ka w as aki fa ns anxiously await your side of this. From a fan's perspective, Rob and his te am wou ld be a class ac t n o matter wh a t b rand w as found und er their awni ng. Kawasaki not returnin g with Mu zzy wo uld be like Ford telling Mr . Roush to p ack h is s tra w hat a n d g o home. Listen, anyo ne can be a Ho nda or a Ducati fan - hell, almost eve ry motorcycle publication would choose a Honda ov er a Kawa saki in a taste test, even if the Honda had wooden piston s. Simply put, Rob and his crew have consistently taken a green bik e to th e ra ce tra ck read y to run up front wit h anybody on the grid . What we love about your associati on with Rob Mu zzy is the trad ition and history you have creat ed wi th him and his crew over the years. This is wh at keeps the othe r team s a littl e on ed ge - they rea liz e w h en th e Muz zy tra n sporte r arrives in the pad dock tha t the competition bar has just been raised. He re' s h op ing yo u' ll rethi nk you r decision and reopen ne goti ati on s w ith There is no d oubt that any rider in any race is ther e with the int ention of winning. Ho wever, it beca me completely obvious to me, a recent qu alifier at Camp Co ker in Socie ty Hi lls, Sou th Carolina, just wha t it takes to really be a "winner." As it ha ppens, ther e w as a midrace cras h in volvin g tw o rid ers - nothing uncommon, but it left one rid er pinned under his bike with no ability to ge t up a n d co n ti n u e. Th e oth er rid er w ent d own se ve ral ya rds away. He jumped up, restarted his bike and looked back. This sa me rider jumped off his bike and unselfishl y went back to help the other rider. This a ct cost him th e p osition need ed to qu alify for Loretta Lynn's. I made a point to find ou t w ho thi s rider wa s, as he is an excep tio nal individual.
