Pau l Iwanaga joine d the battle, goi ng
outside of Brown, but Iwanaga slippe d
high in tu rn four, droppi ng to fifth as
Ande rson took ad vantag e of Iwa naga's
su d d en loss of traction . Damro n a lso
gaine eno ug h momentum to brush pa st
d
Iwa naga, ·catching and passin g Anderson early on lap four. Brown moved ou tside of Jorgensen to chase Pauley down,
gaining ground in turns one and two.
Brown began sear ching for a line around
Pau ley , a n d with track conditions as
they we re, he had many choices.
Hig h or low or in the middle didn't
seem to make a lot of diffe rence, as both
Pauley and Jor gen sen had their hands
full trying to ho ld position - Pauley with
Brown, and Jorgensen with Anderson .
Down the back straigh t and into turn
three, Brown found the drive he needed
and r an h ig h around th e outsid e of
Paul ey to tak e over the race. Anderson
tried a similar move on Jor gensen, only
to lose tract ion in turn four and bar ely
save a na sty high -sid e. Anderso n gathered it back up to rejoin Jorgensen, runni ng side by side, with Jorgensen still on
the inside line. Cors etti bega n to make
his way forward after a medi ocre start,
passing both lwanaga and Damron to
close on the Anderson /Jorgensen race
for thi rd . Now a five-wa y race developed for the third spot, as neither Damron nor Iwa naga let off the pa ce. Corsetti r a n in deep in turn one, pu lli ng a
sli de-job on Anderson. Later, Co rse tti
said his brakes went away, so the pass
may not have bee n planned tha t way.
Brown continued to run out fron t,
with Pau ley seco nd , while th e battle
raged for third . Jorgensen continued to
hold off the cha rges fro m behind . At the
white flag, Brown had almost a straighta w ay le a d , as Jorg e nsen closed on
Pau ley. It was too little too late, thou gh ,
for the you ng roa d racer. Corsetti settled
in for four th. At th e checkere d flag ,
Bro wn ha d a co mfo r table lead ove r
Pa u ley a n d Jorgensen in secon d and
third, wi th Anderson hold ing off Dam ron for fifth . John Hle bo, Rackley, Johnson and Noyes trailed in to round out
the top 10.
