Events Ma tthews nailed the holeshot in the second 250cc Open C moto . Trailing him were Good rich, Jeff Hoffman, Ran di Hoffman and Hughes. Near the end of lap on e, Matthews went down after the single on the tree line in the back of the race course and dropped fro m the top five . Good rich wa s gone by the end of lap two with a 14-second lead . Mas ters passed Ra nd i Hoffman to ta ke third, droppi ng Hoffman to fourth. Then Artonouvlia blew by Jeff Hoffman to take thi rd , Hoffma n d ropped to fourth and H ughes moved u p to fift h. Go odrich took the chec kers wi th a mor e-th an-2 0second lead . True to form , it was Truchinski leading the seco nd -mote cha rge , ahead of Young a nd Eady. Truchinski blew a be rm, handing Young a lead he wo uld not reli nq uish. Kady was also aro un d Truchinski early in the moto but could n't catch the fleet Young an d ha d to se ttle for seco nd in the moto and thi rd-place pay back be hin d the 2-3 rid es of Ne itze l. Truchi nsk i (3-4) and Bath (5-5) ro und ed o ut th e top five. . Truchinsk i and his YZ250 won the d rag race to the first turn at the o nset of the opening 250cc Pro mo to to lea d Bryan Nelson, Neitzel and Troy Welty. Nelson o utj um ped Truchinski for the lead as Kad y slid up into seco nd place after a lap. Kad y block-pa ssed Tru chinski and reeled in Nelson. Young overcame a poor sta rt to make it a th ree- ride r battle for the lead with a cou p le of laps rem ain ing. Kady found a fas ter line through the w hoops to get by Nelson, but Nelso n qu ickly re taliated by keep ing his YZ400's throttle pinned as they sa iled over the over-and -un de r section. Ne lson look the " 'hite flag mere inches ahead of Kady a nd Young. Kady bobbled a turn a nd You ng was up into second place. Nelson o vercooked a jump. lan d in g slig htly off the track. a nd that was all Young needed to run out fro nt for the last half of th e lap to ta ke the win. Nei tzel 'came across the line in fourth, be hin d Kady . Neitzel led ro u rrd two for just o ve r a lap bef ore Young outbraked him a t th e e nd of a straig ht. Young quickly opened up a five-seco nd advantage on his borrowed YZ400 and motored away for a 's w e e p of th e class. Kad y passed N eitz el at the midway point to go 3-2 on his Pro Circu it/ MSR/ Mo tul/ Cect -sponsored YZ250 to ear n the second-p lace money.
