had great results at Middlebury, but the Reiser's Cycle Service star was in the hunt wHh a 3.674 alter getting crossed up over the double. Rod Williams then put in a spectacular ride, losing his Triumph at the top of the hill after the timers. Rod's bike went down the backside of the l1il1 without him, but he still put in a time of 3.534 seconds. Curt Snelling wasn't able to climb into the three-second range as he closed out the first round. Petty wasn't able to put it together on the first run of the final round, and he settled for his first-run time of 3.468 for sixth overall. VanderVeen and Wendt both crashed over the double, and a very sore Watson rolled the double and finished outside the top 10. After Denham scratched, Templeton came to the line. "If I can get through here (the double) clean, I can make Lou ride again," Templeton said. Templeton had' another good holeshot, and he made a midair correction to line up the landing. The Townsend Specialties/Wagner Logging Harley rocketed up the hill in 3.240 seconds to take the lead. "My bike was really fast off the bottom, and I just got it straight before I landed," Templeton said. "I kpew my bike was fast enough to win." Frazier wasn't able to improve on his first run, and Brandon Kreeger lost his chain as the challengers tried to catch Templeton. Bob Shreiner got his Ka"wasaki two-stroke triple moving on his second chance, and he blasted into seventh place with a 3.595-second effort. DeBusk also put his triple over the top, but he couldn't crack the top 10. With Greg Williams out, Large took his second try. He had a fast run going, but the impact of his landing smashed the throttle cable down to half-throttle and he coasted over the top with a 3.606 for eighth place. Rod Williams borrowed a Harley for his second run, and it reall)' paid off. "My Triumph got dirt in the engine, so Jeff Yoder loaned me a bike, and it really went well," Rod Williams said after grabbing fourth overall with a 3.388-second pass. After Snelling rolled the double, Gerencer came to the line, hoping to take back the win. He put in a solid run, but he may have backed off a fraction early near the top of the hill and he came up short of the win, with a 3.397-second run. Gerencer's first-round time was good for second overall, but Templeton had the win. '1 thought Lou was going to get me," Templeton said. "He knows this hill really well. Man, this win feels great. It's CffI been a long time coming." Goshen Iron Horsemen Me Middlebury, Indiana Results: May 16, 1999 (Round 1 of 13) 540: 1. john Hamilton Jr.; 2. Ted Wilkins; 3. Mike Livingston; 4. Chris Brown; 5.
