Matt McCrummen took 125cc Novice honors during GFI race action in Hollister, California. AMP/GFI Spring Motocross series, Round 2 McCrummen rumbles By Jim and Valerie Enos HOLUSTER, CA, APR. 18 att McCrummen put in two superb motos to take the win in the 125cc ovice class at round two of the AMP IGFI Spring Series. The scene was the Hollister ·Grand Prix track, and more than 300 riders were treated to beautiful spring weather and excellent track conditions. With the starter board sideways, the 13-rider gate dropped for moto one and it was Chris Loredo leading the 125cc Novice pack into the first turn. McCrummen, Tommy Jean, Skip Norman and Trafton Chandler followed, with Chandler quickly making his way around Norman to take over fourth. Jean, how·ever, was jamming, and he sailed his Yamaha past McCrummen on a backside tabletop and set out after Loredo. Loredo maintained his lead until the pack hit the tricky left-hander before the Gravity Cavity. Loredo had the lead coming in but exited behind Jean as the duo came down the Gravity Cavity. Jean promptly checked out and left the racing behind him, in the form of Loredo and McCrummen. The two battled until McCrummen took advantage of a bobble by Loredo before the spectator tabletop to take over second. However, McCrummen found that Jean was quite a ways off, and his chances of catching him were slim. Meanwhile, back in the pack, Chandler had a lock on fourth, and orman had slid back to sixth, behind the Kawasaki of Aaron Cox. On the last lap, Cox, Norman and Adam Miller battled it out for the fifth position, with Norman getting the best of the trio. At the finish, Jean took a commanding victory, followed by McCrummen, Loredo, Chandler and Norman. Moto two saw Loredo once again grab the holeshot, but gravity interfered with his plans - he went down in the first turn. McCrummen seized his opportunity and took the lead, followed by Norman, Greg Center and Cox. Jean had a less-than-desirable start and was a ways back in sixth. McCrummen must have sensed Jea'1's bad start, and he began putting some distance on Norman. Center made a mistake, allowing Miller, Cox and Jean to slip by. Jean was on a midmoto rampage and M • g: a> uS N >. '" :;; 36 made his way up to third, passing Norman and then Miller around the big oak tree. Loredo, who picked up his bike in dead last after his first-turn crash, was putting on an impressive ride as he steadily made his way through the field, eventually making his way back up to fifth. Up front, McCrummen continued to lead, knowing a 2-1 score would give him the overall, but Jean was coming on fast and by the last lap he had made his way up to second. Norman held his ground in third, while Cox held off loredo for fourth. The checkers came out a little too soon for Jean, as McCrummen took the win with room to spare. orman cruised in third, with Cox and Loredo rounding out the top five. In the Pee Wee division, it was little Ty Keenom taking the win in the 50cc (46) Stock class. Keenom was the fastest Pee Wee on the track, as he piloted his Cobra to a wire-to-wire victory over Trevor Faulkner. KTM-mounted Richard Rinauro took a 2-1 moto score for the overall on the Pee Wee track in the 50cc . (7-8) Stock class, over Matt Hazel.
