Lotus Tours has announced that a formal agreement has been signed with the U.S. Ducati importer, Ducati North America, and the u.s. dealership network to market and operate a fly/buy/ride European delivery program. The new program will sell U.S. and California-5pec bikes at U.S. manufacturer's suggested retail prices and includes a $600 gift of Ducati Performance Parts and/or Ducati Gear for all factory delivery bikes picked up in Bologna, Ita!y. The four delivery dates scheduled for 1999 are May 25, June 23, July 18 and September 13. Grand National dirt tracker Will Davis will be visiting with children at the St. John's Hospital Carol Jo Veechie Woman & Children's Center in Springfield, lllinois, on Friday, May 28. Sotheby's will hold a vintage-molorcycle and -bicycle sale on September 12 in Chicago, Illinois, featuring antique and classic motorcycles. The cornerstone of the event will be motorcycles from the prestigious collection of Frederick G. Wacker Jr., a prominent Midwest collector, including a rare 1922 Ricardo Triumph 550, a rare 19SO Vincent 1000 Custom, and a red-and-black 1924 Harley-Davidson JD. Promoters of the Summercross, schedu1ed for Ju1y 10 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, have announced the purse structure for the event. The winner of the 250cc event will pocket $20,000, with second place earning $10,000 and third getting $7500. Competitors finishing in fourth through 20th will each win $2300. Entry is limited to 40 invited riders, with each receiving 10 paddock credentials, 10 complimentary tickets and two field credentials for mechanic and team manager. In addition, promoters have also announced that Larry Huffman will be announcing the Summercross event. The permanent retail-price reduction listed in a recent release from American Honda was incorrect. The correet manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 1998 CBRll00XX is now $9999. Gollob wins, Hancock on track at Czech 5 eedwa GP F Suzuki is again sponsoring the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego on May 23, and a Hootie & The Blowfish concert has been scheduled for the night of the race in San Diego's Gaslamp District. The Ju1y 8-11 WERA Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, will feature a Dale Singleton Memorial Event that will include the display of several Yamaha TZ750s, including Singleton's Daytona winner. ormer World Speedway Champion Greg Hancock started the new Grand Prix series in style with a hard-fought second place at the opening round of the 1999 World Individual Championship Series at Prague in the Czech Republic. The 1997 title winner made no mistakes in qualifying for the final with a combina'tion of fast starting and determination, coming frqm the back, but he was forced to play second fiddle to Polish ace Tomasz Gollob (right) on a wet and miserable night. Gollob started with a second place behind Hancock in beat 13, but he produced the goods when it mattered most by gaining revenge over the American in the final. Sweden's Jimmy Nilsen was the favorite going into the final after winning all of his qualifying rides, but conditions were changing so fast with the rain pouring down that it meant anything could happen. And it did, as Nilsen elected to take the inside gate in the final, leaving Hancock off gate two, Australia's Jason Crump off three and Gollob off the outside. Gollob made a dream start and swept around his rivals to pull clear and secure the victory, which will give him confidence for the next five rounds throughout Europe this summer. Reigning World Champion Tony Rickardsson was controversially excluded from heat 19 for moving out of the starting blocks when the rest of the riders were ready, eliminating his chances of making the final. America's other GP-riding former World Champion, Billy Hamill, had a miserable start to the series, crashing out after his second ride. John Hipkiss Acclaim Sports, a division of Acclaim Entertainment Inc., a leading worldwide interactive-entertainment company, has announced that they have resigned Jeremy McGrath to an exclusive mu1tiyear endorsement deal. McGrath will be featured in Acclaim Sports' Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000 for Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Color Gameboy and Windows 95/98 computers. Dave Matson, who recently started running motocross practice sessions at Prairie City SVRA in Sacramento, California, has announced a motocross race series under the name California Cross that will begin on June 6. Moto Laverda, Ducati of North America and European Cycle Specialties will host Corsa Halia '99, a benefit ride dedicated to raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on May 16. The FIM has announced that a round at the Dino e Enzo Ferrari Circuit in Imola, Italy, has filled the open date in the World Championship Road Race Series. The race, which will be round 11, will be hel<;l on September 5. over $6000 in posted contingency from Kawasaki. PURCHASED: Twistgrip magazine, by a newlyformed int.estment group consisting entirely of the magazine's employees, from previous owners High Speed Productions lnc. Editor john Garner, who will lead the new management team in taking control of the magazine, formed the group. An additional two-week Alpine Adventure has been added to Beach's Motorcycle Adventures' 1999 schedu1e. Beginning on May 30, five two-week tours of Europe will be offered.
