with him to second. One lap later, however, Hames dropped off the pace, falling back into the pack and ultimately finishing 12th. Brown got around Corsetti ~n la p five and moved into second place, with fast qualifier Paul lwanaga moving forward, and Rackley and Damron still in the hunt. Brown caught hold of Martin on the seventh lap, and one lap later he was taking it in deep on the outside, looking for a way past the GNC regular. The duo kept the crowd on its feet for the next four straight laps, as Brown ran high and tried to outdrive Martin onto the straightaways. Martin's big Hog had the upper hand time and again. The race was halted on lap 12 when Pauley and promising Pro-Am rider Kenny Noyes collided and went down in turn three. Both riders were down for several minutes, but both ultimately walked away under their own power, although they were through for the night. The restart and ensuing five-lap run to the checkers allowed both Brown and Corsetti, among others, one more shot at Martin. But despite a great effort by Corsetti, Martin got the start he needed, and he quickly re-established the lead pace, one that only Brown could match. On Ute last lap, Brown inadvertently found the holes tha t he had been a voiding all night in turns one and two, and that slowed him just enough to give Martin a clean run through turns three and four and on to the win. "1 was worried (about the restart) because we didn't have a warning from r,ed to green like we do at the ationals," Martin said. "1 just jumped and headed for the bottom, and it worked out. 1 liked the program. The only thing that seemed different to me was the lastchance qualifier - 1 didn't really understand that. But I like the time trials. You get to see how fast you really are withou t someone getting in your wa y like they could in a Scratch heat, or if you get a bad start. But I'm leaving Satu.rday, and I'll be back east till September. t:III This is a good way to leave."
