The AMA Superbike win for Anthony Gobert
was his third at Laguna Seca Raceway. Gobert
had previously won two separate legs of the
World Superbike Championship at Laguna.
Harley.Davidson's Pascal Picotte didn't have
a good weekend after finishing third just a week
earlier at Sears Point. Picotte's VR1000 suf·
fered with electrical problems all weekend, cut·
ting short the French Canadian's track time and
severely hampering his efforts to find a good
race setup. He also suffered a blown engine duro
ing qualifying. Picotte's race was cut short when
he pulled off to prevent blowing up another
engine. "I was over·rewing it a little bilto keep
up." Picotte said. "I was making up time in the
corners. but I could only do it for so long. It
started vibrating so I thought it was safer to pull
in than blow it up. "
Picotte's teammate, Scott Russell. didn't fare
any better. Russell ended up parking both of his
VRs during qualifying and his race ended with an
electricjll problem after just two laps.
Eric Bostrom continues to battle back to
complete fitness while also regaining the confi·
dence that led him to two AMA Superbike
National wins last year. Bostrom ended up -ninth
in the National. "It's gelting better," Bostrom
sai'd. "I was happy for the red flag. I got
screwed in the first part. A lapper pulled over in
my way and we hit. That's when (Steve) Crevier
got by and it uitimately led to eRich) Oliver getting by because it messed me up. In the second
part. I got really angry and started throWing it in
like I need to. We' re getting back to where we
need to be. My biggest problem is that I get a
little winded. a little fatigued, because I haven't
been able to train at all." Bostrom ended up
ninth in the Na.tional.
