Out front, Linder continued to lead all the way to the checkers for the mota win. Daim was next best, and Scalzo held on lor third. When the knobbies tore into the moist, sandy loam at the start of moto two, it was the Yamaha 61 Daim snagging the holeshot. james Linder held second, and Atchison, who was back for more, gated better this time and ran . third. john Tookey positioned his CR250 into the lourth slot, while jolmson filled out the top five at the end of lap one. Daim looked strong at the beginning of the moto as he held Linder at bay for two laps. johnson started to move up, and he assumed the fourth spot after going around Tookey on the back section 01 the course. The race for the lead was a tight one. Linder began to apply pressure to Daim and looked to find a way around. just .past the halfway point in the moto, misfortune struck Linder: He had a diliicult time negotiating the canyon section 01 the track and became separated from his machine. Daim took advantage of the situation and stretched his lead, now over Atchiso~, who moved up to occupy second. johnson still rode in third, but Kukla was coming through the pack and was beginning to close. Daim continued to ride fast and smooth, and when the white flag came out he enjoyed a sixsecond advantage. Atchison still held second, and Johnson was third, despite the pressure from Kukla. When the checkered flag came out, it was Daim taking the all-important secondmoto win to secure the overaU victory 00 the day. Atchison stayed up and rode in for second, willie johnson held on to claim third. On the day, the top prize went to Daim by virtue 01 his 2-1 finishes. james Linder linished in second after posting 1-6 rides. Johnson earned the third spot with 5-3 on the day. Results 125 BEG: 1. Brewer stirs up LACR MX Win By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA, APR. 11 Michael Brewer used a 2-1 tally on a cool, overcast day at Los Angeles County Raceway to collect the 80cc Beginner~dass overall wi], during California Racing Club's Sunday motocross. Brewer started things off by putting his CRBO into holes hot mode on the first-moto start. Brewer's lead was short-lived, though, as Kyle jenkins emerged with the lead aiter only a lap on the j.B. Memorial track. jenkins was on lire and pulled out a 15-second lead over Brewer by the time the checkers came out. An intense three-rider battle over third place that lasted throughout the second hall 01 the mota saw jimmy Patrick prevail over leHow Yamaha riders Brennan McGinnis and Justin Hilliger. Hilliger smoked the rest 01 the field down the long start straight to lead Brewer and Steven Colson early .in round two. First-moto dominator Jenkins went down just a couple of turns into the race and called it day. Meanwhile, up Iront, both Brewer and Colson pushed Hilliger back to third place on the opening lap. Brewer maintained a consistent pace out front to lead every lap lor the well-deserved overall win. Hilliger got back around Colson and started to gain on Brewer, but it was a little too late and he had to be content with second at the linish. Patrick slowly worked his way up into a third"place linish and second overall over the 5-2 of Hilliger. McGinnis and Colson rounded out tlie top five. . Consistency paid off for Gary Guercio in the Vet Novice class, as he claimed the overall win without winning either moto. Derrik Arnold and Guercio ran one.-tw~ throughout the first • mota, with Arnold taking the win. Ray Ritzier climbed up through the pack to earn third over Pasha Afshar and David Williams. Alshar took control 01 the top spot on theopening lap of the second moto and continued on ., uncontested for the win. Arnold and Guercio traded second place back and forth, with Guercio being stronger on the white-flap lap to claim the overaU with a pair of runner-up finishes. Afshar's 4-1 edged out Arnold's 1-4 lor second overall. Results P/W YAM BEG: 1. Cb<'\ndler Quimette (Ya.m); 2. Cole DePerlIa (Yam); 3. A.J. Horton (Yam); 4. Max Mimoff (Yam); 5. Louis Smith (Yam).
