Round 14: Louisiana Superdome ... . " (Left) On the white-flag lap, Nick Wey went from fourth to third place when Jason McCormick flew off the track. After six rounds, Wey sits third in the points race. (Above, left to right) Horton, Fonseca and Wey celebrate their finishes and Fonseca's championship aboard the podium at the Louisiana Superdome. ' Wey's race turned around after about nine laps, when he went from sixth to fourth, taking Smith with him. Fonseca's effort also took its usual turn for the best at the halfway point when Horton gave way but did not give up. Fonseca rode the rest of the race in the lead, w,ith Horton following his every move. Horton never challenged to take back the lead, but he stayed close enough to Fonseca's rear fender to capitalize on any possible Fonseca mistake. McCormick's ride, however, took a turn for the worse. "I was right there, fighting for the lead at the halfway point, and Horton got out of control and almost took me out in. the air, which caused Fonseca to get by me," said McCormick. "1 stayed in third ,for the whole race, got the white flag and went down in the whoops. It waS' just a stupid mistake. I actually saved it but went down on the cement (on the side of the track). 1 just tried to recover as fast as 1 could and ended up sixth./I 10 Wey, Kelly Smith and Neese gladly advanced around McCormick to finish in third through fifth. Danny Smith went from 14th at the start to seventh behind McCormick - after 15 laps of racing. OehIhof, Thomas and Evans rourided out the top 10. "I was a little tight, but it came out good in the end, and my bike was working really good," said a calm and reserved Fonseca. "I was a little nervous before the main, and I didn't get a good start, but I worked my way up and proved that 1 could do it. "Everything is growing right now, and I'm happy for that and hope I can finish a good season," continued Fonseca, regarding his championship and the upcoming 12Scc National MX Series. "It feels really good. For the Nationals, I just need to keep working hard and I can do good." ,.
