While Edmonson was picking himself off the grouna, Jason Creer shot by Morrison and set his sights on Handy. Handy's lead was in appearance only, because bac.k~row starter Robby Deal had closed the gap between the lead riders and had taken control of the overall position on corrected time by the third lap. At the finish, Handy came through the barrels in first place in the AA class, but Deal had grabbed the first overall win of the 1999 series. The 2llOcc A class provided exciting fenderto·fender racing between Chad Parker and David White. By the second lap, the two had switched places several times. Fimlly, White got out front a little and continued to stretch out his lead to take the win at the barrels. Parker held down second. Andrew Williams put in four consistent laps to come in third, a rather exceptionaJ feat considering he had just gotten over a nasty case of chicken pox. Kawasaki rider Wesley Moran seized the holeshot during the 250cc A start. However, by the time the pack had reached the scoring barrels, Robbie DeaI had seized control of the 250cc A lead, with his brother Tony Deal close behind in second place. Suzuki jockey Larry Trent had also gotten by Moran, but Moran fought back by maneuvering <:Ifound Trent in the second lap. With Robbie Deal in contention for the overall, it was a battle between Tony Deal and Moran for the class win. At the end of the last lap, Tony Deal went flying over the bars, opening up an opportunity for Moran to slide by and take the first-place trophy for the 250cc A class. Results 0/ A;. APR. 4 Fonner professional motocrosser Nev LaBorde continued his winning ways at the second race of the season at the Willow Creek Motocross Park. Kawasaki-mounted laBorde won the Vet Over 30 and Open classes with two 1-1 mota rampages. Dustin Lenaburg was the only rider on the day to beat LaBorde, in the combined 250cc Pro/Vet class, in which Lenaburg was·the lone Pro. While Lenaburg flew to an impressive wireto-wire victory, the battle behind the talented teenager was for the top position in the Vet class. LaBorde, KX-mounted Bill Kinney and YZ-mounted Dave Cheney provided all of the action behind the long-gone Lenaburg, but it was laBorde who broke free from the batde to take the Vet-class win. . Lenaburg, who contested only one class, did a similar disappearing act in moto two to continue his domination of the event. laBorde again ran a distant second while leading the Vet class. laBorde survived early challenges from Cheney and Kinney to take his first of two overall wins. Cheney recovered from his first-moto crash to net second overall, ahead of Kinney and Mike Kilby. The second class to fall beneath laBorde's onslaught was the Open class. Yamaha-mounted Jeremy Kendall ran in LaBorde's shadow for both motos, but having won both 250cc Junior motos earlier, Kendall could not keep up the pace in the later stages. He finished second, ahead of Honda·mounted Mike Emery. Combined with the Open class were the Over 40 contestants, led by double moto winner Jay Loundagin, Rick Hopkins and third-place finisher Pat Brown. KTM-mounted Tyler Craig made short work of the combined Pee Wee Advanced/Novice class, easily winning both motos, just as he did two weeks prior at the season opener. Fellow KTM riders Brandyn Jasa and Kip Olkowski spent most of both motos in a heated exchange for second-place honors, but the skirmish went in Jasa's favor by virtue of his late--moto antics in the second contest, relegating Olkowski to third overall. Cory Evans scored a win in the Novice portion via his 1-1 sweep, beating Cameron McGillvray and Crant Smith. Honda·mounted Nicole Sprague scored a near upset in the first Women's-class moto. She led the majority of the first moto until S/MlN1: I. Zack Dinsdale (){aw). P/W ADV~ I. Tyler Craig (KTM); 2 Brandyn JII5iI (KTM);J. IGp Olkowski (KTM). P/W NOV: 1. Cory EV3M (KTM): 2. Conner's honors at Washougal Motocross By Pat I?ougherty WASHOUGAL, WA, APR. 11 Paul Conner took the overall honors in the 125cc A class to start off the year with a bang at Washougal Motocross Park. More than 400 riders enjoyed what was arguably the best weather of the year so far, as blue skies and a stiff east wind made for excellent track conditions after weeks of rain in the Pacific Northwest. Riders were treated to loamy roo t, the likes of which have not been seen in these parts since October. The RMl25 of Jamie Munson crossed the finish line first in the fir t 125cc A moto. Munson left all riders behind as.he easily won the first moto, ahead of Conner and Eric Loney. The second mota saw Conner abscond with the holeshot, only to overjump the tunnel jump. As he rebounded, Munson sneaked by for the lead. It looked as though Munson was going to run away and hide again, but going through the 5-turns, Munson went down and wrenched his knee. Munson's crash handed the lead back to Conner. Conner's 2-1 moto tally topped Mu~ son's 1-2 for the overall win. Forrest Transue was the big man on campus in the 250cc A class. After a two-year break, the red head threw a leg over a bone-stock YZ400 and trounced the field in both his motos, though he did have to work through traffic, including CR250-mounted Don Bisceglia and local young buck Larry Jones, who was riding a Kawasaki. The Meyer brothers' story was an interesting one, because they were sharing a Honda 0025. Younger brother Kevi.n, who just graduated out of the 80cc ranks last year, got the holeshot in both motos and won in front of the large field of 125cc Beginners. Then his older brother Tim won both 125cc B motos. The Meyer 125 left the track undefeated. Results 50 (4-6): 1. Trevor Ivey (KTM); 2. DuJ;tin Phillips (Lem); 3. Tyl~ Holweger (KTM); 4, Doneauxvan McBryde UCTM); 5. Ben Baldasano (KTM). 50 (7-8): 1. Joey RumineT (Kl'M); 2. Jared Stcinke (l(TM); 3. Tony Beauvais (Lt-m); 4. Frankie 80ncz (ATK); S.
