(Above) Willy Musgrave (62) leads Craig Davis (711) past a lapper during their
dogfight for Pro-class honors in Gorman, California. Musgrave came away with
the overall victory with a 2-1 score.
(Left) Kevin Montgomery cruised to the overall win in the Vet Amateur division
at the SRA Grand Prix, located within the grounds of Perris Raceway in
California.
Billy Swapp jumped into second and an out-ofcontrol Derek Costella raged up to third.
Costella was flying as he muscled his way into
second and started houndJng Roberts. Costella
was applying heavy-duty pressure until he
dropped it in the sweeper before the fini h
line.
When Costella crashed, Roberts' lead
became much larger, allowing him an easy
moto win. Costella picked his bike back up
and charged through the pack, finishing second, ahead of Swapp and Rodney Honberger.
Proving his first-moto start was no fluke,
jensen blasted to his second straight holeshot,
putting his Suzuki out in front of Costella and
Chollar to start race two. As positions were
shuffled early on, Costella took over the lead
and Jason Medina scrambled into the second
spot.
This time, it was Roberts' tum to work his
way through the pack. Costella continued to
stretch his lead, eventually winning by a huge
margin and capturing the overall 80cc (14-16)
class crown. Roberts continued his march
toward the front, finishing in third behind
Billy Swapp. Roberts' third-place finish netted
him second in the 80cc (14-16) class.
Justin Jensen took overall honors in the
80cdI2-13) class, ahead of Chase Nelson and
jason Medina.

PERRIS, CA, MAR. 14
Kevin Montgomery rode to a convincing win in
the Vet Amateur division, as the Southland Racing Association made its first trip in several
years to the revamped Perris Raceway.
jim Wilkey got the jump off the start, but he
was pushed wide in the first corner, allowing
the KX of Randy Danylo to sneak by on the
inside and lead the pack to the second turn.
Wilkey held on to s,\"ond, followed by Mike
Martin, Montgomery and Mondo Duran. Wilkey
wasted little time going for the lead, and he
passed Danylo on the inside over the small
infield double. Danylo's stint in second was
short, as Montgomery got by in the right-hander
that followed the double. Wilkey led the field
into the !x,ck section, with Montgomery closing
in second. Danylo, Martin and Duran filled out
the top five.
Montgomery exited the back section and
approached the big double with the lead. Wilkey
came around in second, with Danylo third. TI,e
top three positions remained the same for severallaps, with Montgomery pulling away at a rate
of four seconds per lap. Danylo continued to
pressure Yamaha jockey Wilkey for second.
Wilkey succumbed to the pnessure from Danylo
and dropped to third coming out of the tight
back section. Fourth and fifth belonged to Martin and Springman, respectively.
With Montgomery and Danylo established
in first and second, the battle for the final spot
on the podium contil}ued. Wilkey controlled
third but was pressured by Martin, who was losing time to Springman. Martin continued to
pressure Wilkey for third for several laps.
Springman trailed in fifth with a three-second
deficit. Martin seized the third position in the
back section, dropping Wilkey to fourth.
Wilkey's stay in fourth was short, a Suzukimounted Springman cut to the inside of Wilkey
in the 18
