Sixteen tough-looking 7- and 8-yearolds showed up to compete in the 51cc Stock class. Two of the mini-gladiators were KTM/Malcolm Smith Motorsports-sponsored Bruce Rutherford and Donnie Kearney, teammates who placed first and second overall. The first 1O-minute moto started with Ronnie Goodwin claiming the holeshot, followed by Rutherford, Bryce Terzian and Johnny Jelderda. Goodwin went down in the second turn and Rutherford took the lead. Rutherford held on to first until lap three, when Terzian squeaked past him. Rutherford quickly regained first, passing him on the inside of the turn on a hill. On the same lap, Kearney, after working his way through the pack into fourth, continued his charge and passed Jelderda for third. At the checkered flag, Rutherford was first across the finish line, followed by Terzian and Kearney. In the second moto, Trevor Reis captured the holeshot, followed by Cody Tithof. Jacob Katinada and Terzian. By the end of the first lap, both Rutherford and Kearney had plowed through the pack and into second and fourth, respectively. Reis and Terzia n held down first and third, respectively. At the end of lap two, it was again ,Rutherford in the lead. On lap three, Kearney passed Reis and started putting pressure on Terzian. As Kearney and Reis raced toward Animal Leap, Kearney took command on the inside of the turn and seized second. Terzian lost one more position to Reis. At the finish line, it was a very happy Rutherford, followed by Kearney, Reis and Terzian. Both Rutherford and Kearney agreed the whole track was fun, but they disagreed as to what parts were the most difficult. Rutherford said the tabletops were tough. Kearney, on the other hand, liked the tabletops "The back stretch is the hardest part;" Kearney asserted. "I kind of got squirrelly." Competition was fierce in Ule 125cc B Modified class. In the first moto, 36 racers thundered out of the gate, with Sean O'Connor in the lead. Cory Gibbons, Jonathan Shimp and Chris Sprenkel followed close behind. . During the first lap, Shimp passed Gibbons and O'Connor, placing himself in first. Thousand Oaks Yamaha/ Answer / Pro Circuit-sponsored Shimp was then able to ride unchallenged to take the win. Sprenkel passed Gibbons for third on lap one and O'Connor for second on lap two. After securing second, Spienkel had no other competition to the fini h line. Sean Hamblin and Russell Thompson started the moto in seventh and eighth. Both riders powered their way through the pack and were sitting in third and fourth going into the white-flag lap. On the last lap, Thompson passed Hamblin to finish third. At the start of the second moto, Fox/ Dunlop/ Renthal/Pro Circuit-sponsored Hamblin got a great start, taking the holeshot and holding the lead to the finish. . "I rode a couple of laps hard, then kind of cruised the rest of the way:' said Hamblin. Answer/ FW's rider, Ito Posca, in second at the start, appeared to have second place locked. But on the white-flag lap, three turns from the finish line, Shimp squeezed around him to take second. The move gave Shimp first overall on the day, followed by Hamblin. Ryan Morais, who scored a 5-4, finished third for the day. _ JWoFu11 Event Weekends ." . .'+.. .. C'4:_.1' ._ .. - .". ."
