Mohney was able to better Bowers by a position in the Mini Junior class, but it was the Honda-mounted Tanner Reed who stole the show with a second-moto holeshot and a wire-to-wire win over both riders. Other action saw Erik Leonard taking top honors in the Over 25 class over Brian Rehme.rt, while Brian's brother Ron Rehmert took the tory in the Over 30 class. vic~ Results MICRO (4-6), 1. On lap two, Dadej drafted and passed Daniel down the back straight. Dadej kept going, passing Totsubo on the inside of turn eight. All three racers were side by side down the front straight at the start of lap three. Emerging with a precarious grasp on the lead out of tum one, Dadej tried to open a gap on his pursuers. Meanwhile, Daniel powered around Totsubo on the outside of tum eight, and as those two carried on their dice, they dosed b.,ck up on Dadej. Shortly after starting the next lap, Totsubo moved past Daniel to retake second, but all three racers remained nearly side by side for the next nine laps of the lD-1{Ip eventl exchanging the lead several times. On the final lap, Daniel powered from second to the lead through turn four and started to open a slight gap on Totsubo and Dadej. However, rounding turn nine for the final time, she slowed slightly, allowing all three to cross the finish line within mere inches of each other. The WSMC officials sorted it out, giving Dadej the win, followed by Totsubo in second and Daniel in third. Results F-l: 1. Curtis Adams (Suz); 2. Mark Millcr (Yam); 3. Capt turns the tables at Four Aces Euro Scrambles By Ron Pocher Photo by Photos by Grumpy REO MOUNTAIN, CA, FEB. 13 Team Green's Jeff Capt orchestrated a brilliant come-from-behind victory at the Four Aces Motorcycle Club's European Scrambles. After spotfing his fellow competitors a five-second head start, Capt charged through the pack to win the Vet Expert/ Amateur race. "I was dead last off the start:' said Capt. '1 bet it took me 10 kicks to get that baby started." The Four Aces laid out two separate courses for Saturday's event. Expert and Amateur riders competed on Course A, while Novices and Beginners tackled Course B. "J bet I passed 20 guys on that first lap", said Capt about his ride on Course A. '1 then got by about five more on the second lap and then took off after the leaders." Abe Baumann, who is always a threat in the Vet Expert division, led the first two loops of the la-mile circuit after catching Mike Korenwinder midway through lap one. Korenwinder showed he's enjoying his new Yamaha YZ400 mount by pulling off a booming, uphill holeshot to lead at the bomb. "I caught Korenwinder pretty early in the third lap and then went after Abe:' said Capt, ''but I didn't pass him until about two miles from the finish in that last iast section." The Course A flagman mistakenly gave Capt the white flag at the finish, so he was treated to an uncontested victory lap. Baumann held on for second, with Korenwinder third. Les Lehigh and his CR500 rolled home in fourth, while Paul Shafer finished fifth overall to claim top 250cc Vet Expert honors. Dave Earll was top Vet Amateur at ninth overall. ln the 200cc/250cc/Open/Four-Stroke race, Capt's Team Green teammate Dave Ondas pulled off a wire-to-wire win. Aboard a KXSOO that sounded more like a top-fuel dragster than an off-road dirt bike, Ondas was already enjoying a six-second lead when he crested the hill at the end of the bomb run. Ondas had an uneventful run to the checkers, but racers were jockeying for position in his wake. justin Lundin, the eventual Four-Stroke-class winner, held his YZ400 in second place throughout the first lap, with ATK-mounted joey LaIl7.a nippiJlg at his heels. Lanza continually tried to find a way around Lundin and was plotting a pass in one of the tighter sections on the course when Team Green's Kur! Caselli slipped by for third. "J was right on Lundin and looking for a way by when Caselli came out of nowhere, kind of cut off a corner and passed me," said Lanza. The three SpeedsteIS crossed the scoring shoot in tight formation, and the dice was on. LUIldin was next on Caselli's hit list. "1 dosed in on Lundin early in the second lap and got by him in a tight section in the hills:' said Caselli. Caselli then opened a gap as Lundin and Lanza continued to batUe.
