According to a release issued by Fox Racing, Fox has filed a lawsuit against Showtime Racing, Jeremy McGrath, No Fear and several John Does, for breach of contract. "Fox Racing Inc. and Jeremy McGrath have had a long-term business relationship," the release states. "This important relationship is defined by a contract. Fox believes that this contract is a significant document. Fox Racing believes that Jeremy McGrath did not fuJfill his obligations under the contract and thus caused harm to Fox Racing. It is for this reason that Fox Racing has filed a complaint against Showtime Racing Inc. and No Fear." Yamaha of Troy's Stephane Roncada will host the Easter egg hunt at the Max Track in Piru, California, on April 4, prior to practice for the third round of the Gold Rush Classic. The third annual Big Valley Ford Spring Classic Pro short track will be held at the Lodi Cycle Bowl in Lodi, California, on April 17. Last year's winner, Brett Landes, is scheduled to defend his title, and a $2500 purse will be up for grabs in the 25-lap main event. For more information, call 209/368-7182. Schorsh Meier, 88, died on February 19 in Munich, Germany. Meier was a legendary figure in German sporting history,with his greatest triumph coming in the 1939 Senior IT on the Isle of Man. As a works BMW rider, Meier became the first "foreigner" to win the Senior. The new motocross track at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minnesota, (20 minutes south of Minneapolis) is scheduled to open on April 1 for practice. The first race is planned for April 3. The California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Committee is accepting nominations for candidates to receive the 1999 Commission Superior Achievement Awards. For the better part of two deca~es, Baylands Raceway Park in Fremont, California, was a landmark racing facility. The finaJ day of racing was held at the facility on December 4, 1988, and. Emy Ekblom (a.k.a. Captain Video), is now making his video footage of that final day at Baylands available for the public. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is asking interested groups to help it raise motorists' awareness of motorcycles and is willing to pay for that help, according to the AMA. The federal agency wants to develop and test a program that will educate the public about motorcycles, their special driving requirements and the need to share the road. As part of that, the agency is soliciting program proposals from state and local motorcycle-safety programs, state highway offices, local law-enforcement agencies and other groups interested in planning, executing and overseeing an awareness program. Winning proposals could be eligible for federal funds. Australian road racer Garry McCoy will apparently take the season off after being left without a ride for the 1999 season. "Everything is still up in the air at this stage," McCoy told Australian Motor Cycle News recently. ''I'm just going to concentrate on getting. back into training - doing some motocross and dirt track, but making sure I get my leg right." McCoy broke his right leg during morning warmup for the Czech Republic Grand Prix last year. McCoy could end up taking someone's spot if they were to get injured. "Not that I would want to take anyone's spot like that," McCoy said. Road racer Anthony Gobert took part in Project Angel Food as part of his community-service program during the off-season. Gobert worked for a week in the kitchen of Project Angel Food, preparing food for delivery to those suffering from AIDS in Los Angeles, California. The 40 hours of community service was part of his deal with the AMA that would allow him to race again. This year's Repsol Hondas will feature a dark blue background on the bikes' noses, instead of the white background used on last year's NSR500s. The changes have been made because of "changes regarding the application of the Repsol logo," according to Repsol. The Repsol Hondas will be ridden again by Mick Doohan, Alex Criville and Tadayuki Okada. Dave Barr, the only disabled person to have ridden around the world on a motorcycle, will speak of his travels and exploits during a visit to Sears Point Raceway for Sonomafest '99, a 10-day event scheduled for April 16-25. The site can be found at: http://www.moriartyrnx.com. _ Vuillemin wins in Greece Y amaha's David Vuillemin claimed the overall win in round two of the F1M World Championship 250cc MX Series in Megalopolis, Greece, March 28. '1 showed today that 1 can race with the 250 guys," Vuillemin said after posting 5-1 moto finishes. '1 want to prove I am as fast in this class as I was in the 125cc class last year." Vuillemin crashed in the first moto and took a start-to-finish win in the second, clinching the overall with 31 points on the aay. Second place went to Honda's Frederic Bolley, who tallied 30 points via 4-2 moto finishes. Mickael Maschio made it a French sweep by placing third overall with 2-6 results. Team Honda's Ryan Hughes was slowed by crashes but still grabbed fourth overall. Hughes ended up with 6-3 moto finishes. The winner of the first moto was Kawasaki's Pit Beirer, but, in the second moto, the German rider struggled to a 12th. In the series point standings, BoUey leads with 70, followed by Vuillemin with 55 and Hughes with 53. In Italy for round two of the FIM World Championship 125cc MX Series, defending champ Alessio Chiodi scored the overall win with 2-1 moto finishes on his factory-backed Husqvama. Chiodi traded 1-2 placings with Yamaha's Claudio Federici, who was awarded second overall. Posting a pair of third-place finishes but well back of the moto winners was Honda's Mike Brown. He was credited with third overall. Honda's Luigi Seguy went 4-5 for fourth overall, while Husqvama rider Johnny Aubert went 6-4 to round out the top five overall. Chiodi owns the series points lead with 77, followed by Federici with 65 and Brown with 39. 3
