Louis, Missouri, March 27 Round 13 - Pontiac, Michigan, April 10 the fourth lap, while running fourth, after reportedly being taken out by Tortelli. Carmichael remounted at the back of the pack and later pulled into the pit area. He eventually went back out and circulated the track for the remaining laps, ending up 18th. With Carmichael now out of the picture, Reynard had taken sale control of second place, but he was already about· four seconds down on the leader, McGrath. Reynard was unable to put a dent in McGrath's armor, but this would soon be the least of his !"orries, as Ward began to do e in from behind. Ward sta!ked Reynard for a couple of laps and finally passed him through a wh op section, only to discover that McGrath had stretched out his lead to an insurmountable six seconds. At this point, Reynard started to slip back through the pack. "By the 10th lap, my shoulder just kind of got tired and didn't ha ve the endurance," Reynard said of his backward slide. (Reynard had injured the shoulder while practicing during the week prior to the Daytona Supercross.) "It just isn't strong enough yet." Reynard would finish out the race in eighth. Ward managed to knock off a couple of seconds between himself and ... McGrath, but he could never mount a lJf serious challenge. Instead, he had a rapidly approaching LaRocco to worry about. LaRocco moved into third on the 10th lap, reeled in Ward (using lapped traffic to his advantage), and stuck a wheel in 'On the Suzuki rider a few times, but he ~ was unable to make the pass. II1II "The lappers made it so I couldn't Q . jump some of the doubles," Ward said. "It was a bad deal." After taking the checkered flag nearly 10 seconds clear of Ward, winner McGrath said; "1 knew lappers were going to be bad tonight, so I tried to get a lead. That way, 1 could deal with them if they got in my way. "This track had some difficult jumps, 20 l I III :I! and if you didn't get lined up right, it would be tough," McGrath added. "1 had sOp1e good lines out there; it just worked ou!." Despite getting stuck in the gate, Pichon missed making the podium by one position but crossed the finish line well behind laRocco. Pichon had a few bike lengths on Huffman, who started the race in ninth and moved into fifth on the 17th la p after passing Torlelli. TorteUi rode a steady race, fil1ishing sixth. Lamson, who climbed up from a 15th-place start, followed TorteW across the finish line. Reynard finished a distant eighth, followed by Lusk. An outof-sync Albertyn ended up 10th after at one point running as high as sixth. "1 just couldn't get into a rhythm," a disappointed Albertyn said. "[ felt terrible the whole race, really wasn't riding well at all. Then 1 crashed (on the 12th lap). [ got kicked in the butt by one of the little step-offs; the next jump, I went a little to the left, landed on a hay bale and it was ove.." ell Metrodome Minneapolis, Minnesota Results: March 20, 1999 (Round 11 of 16) 250 HEAT] (8 laps; ]-4 transfer to main); 1.
