Events f (Left) Akira Narila topped the 250cc Pro class during CRC race action al Los Angeles Raceway. (Above) Chad Ruggles won the 125cc (14-24) and 125cc Amaluer classes at round one of the Sport Rider Association of Colorado Motocross Series. CRC Motocross wins to Narita, Smith By Greg Robertson PALMDALE,CA,FEB.14 Akira Narita took the hard-fought 250cc Pro-class win, while Shane Smith hardly broke a sweat during his total domination of the I25cc Novice class at Los Angeles County Raceway during California Racing Club's Sunday motocross. Dustin Evans put his B&B Cyc1es/MSRbacked CR250 into the first 2SOcc Pro moto lead and held his ground until Narita jumped to the inside of him coming out of a whoop section to run out front. As Nanta started to inch away, Evans came under fire from Sh.unji Takami, who would use a move similar to Narita's to take over the runner-up p'osition a couple of laps later. Nanta continued on to take the win a few seconds ahead of Takami and Evans. Evans again had the quickest reaction time and led Takami and Narita early in the second moto. Evans controlled the top spot until lap two, when Takami railed around him while entering the whoops. Narita was right there to push Evans back to third in the same whoop section. Narita hounded Takami for a lap before trading places with him to run out front. Takami repassed Narita and saw the white flag first, but when they carne around again for the checkers, it was Narita by the slimmest of margins, taking home the first-place money. Smith made his way to the front of the 12Sec Novice class on the opening lap of the first moto and never looked back. Shawn Trabert held down second place until Deuce Rutledge proved to be a little faster by the midway point. Smith greeted the checkers all by himself, with Rutledge a safe second ahead of Bo Williams, Trabert and Matt Simpson. Moto two was a duplicate of the first, with Smith putting his White Bros./Sinisalo-sponsored YZI25 into an immediate lead and stretching it out with each passing lap for a convincing victory. Williams got a better start this time out and outran Rutledge to take home the secondplace trophy. Results P!W BEG: 1. D.tl Leodom (KTM); 2. Sean Springer (Cob); 3. Blakt Uniack (Cob): 4. Boham bombs Mini class By Stacy Jensen PUEBLO, CO, FEB. 7 More than 300 riders carne to participate in the opening round of the Sport Riders Association of Colorado Motocross Series. As always, the Mini Novice class offered real excitement from start to finish, but in the end it was 14-year-old Ashley Boham who came away the winner. Boham was the overall winner in the SRAC Mini Novice division in 1998, and she was not about to let the guys forget it as she jumped off the gate in the first moto, tucking behind Dawson Devries, Nick Vance and Cory Cummings. As they disappeaned behind the dark side of the pyramid, all 36 riders were on the move. Then, one by one, they appeared at the top of the pyramjd and began their descent. Boham gained momentum through that section and as she started the downhill run toward the big spectator sweeper, she moved into first. That's where she finished the first moto. joshua Ledbetter, Devries, Cody Beyd and Cummings rounded out the top five. In the second moto, Boham jumped out to an early lead with the holeshot and a quick look over her shoulder to wave bye-bye. Ledbetter battled it out with Rusty Mansaneres, Devries, Nick Vance and jason Champagne for second. [t was a tough-fought battle, with back-and-forth passes along the freeway and down into the new straightaway before the finish line. In the end, Boham took first and the overall, while Ledbetter held second and Devries snagged third from Vance just before the finish. Beyd held fifth. In an interview in the pits, Boham said she was excited about the win, as this would get her closer to her goal of advancing to the amateur level in mini racing. Results 50 NOV: 1. Shane Kra.ko; 2.
