as Burke Craghead battled past Brumley into second. At the finish line, it was Joshua Thurgood with an easy win, followed by Craghead, Kenny Brumley and Jason Brown. Brumley got the jump on the class in race two, but Thurgood was right on IUs heels. Thurgood made the quick pass On Brumley for the lead as Brown, Craghead and Lopez were going at it for third. Thurgood was in another gear, however, as he pulled out a big lead and dusted the field. Brumley also stretched it out to finish a solid second. Craghead, Brown and Brian Lopez followed him across the line. Joshua Thurgood was the day's fast Novice, turning two monster wins into the 12Scc Novice overall trophy. Results P/W STK (4-6): I. Moore magnificent at Orland Indoor Short Track By Mike Law ORLAND, CA, FEB. 6 Nick Moore, an 80cc Expert-class racer, puJled off some slick moves on a sUck track as he rode wire to wire to victory at the inaugural event on the small, tight indoor concrete track. Moore lined up again t rivals Stewart Barber Jr., Jason Grewe and Brandon Inderl?itzin, not to mention a host of other talented riders. As the ~green flag fell for the start of the fast main event, Moore, with patience and finesse, jumped into the lead and then flew to the checkers ahead of the pack. "It was real slippery out there, but my dad taught me how to race on a track like this," Moore said of his win. "I went slow and kept it on. My dad made the right cuts in my tires and that really helped, too." Pee Wee Novice Chad Cose played giant killer as he bested Expert Ryan Law in the combined Pee Wee and 60cc main event. Cose, an absolute master of throttle control, picked perfect lines and paced himself throughout the final, and he won by several bike lengths. "My dad inspires me," Cose aid of his victory. "We put in -a new piston, and I'm sure that helped, too." The 250cc Vintage riders lined up in the Bultaco-dominated main event. Age and experience were. put to the test as riders pulled out tricks and strategies as old as some of the riders ana their machinery. Dana Perri SpW1 and bun-ped his way into the lead with a spectacular start, and then proceeded. to sUde his way around the .track. The majority of the pack behind Perri tried to imitate his style as they scrambled for positions, but they quickly found themselves either on the ground or off the trade Perri kept his cool and composure, and prevaiJed. "1 won by luck," said Perri. "Everyone is having the ""me problem with the slipping and the sliding. I love these indoor short tracks, bu t there are only a few guys out there that are hooking up like they want to. It really is a lot of fun, though." Mark Deal (33) slides wide, allowing Jeff Berg (72) to pass for the overall win at the Northland Motorcycle Riders Association team race on Barkers Island in Superior, Wisconsin. Dennis Cameron jumped into the lead in the Open main event, with John Proto, Randy Freeman and Dana Perri in hot pursuit. Proto slipped back one position on lap four as the lead four approached lappers at the tail end of the pack. Cameron threaded his way through the traffic and took the checkered flag by nearly a lap. '1 just had good equipment," said Cameron. "It was just my night to shine. The idea was to get the jump and just stay ahead of everyone, and that seemed to work." Results P/W STI<.: I.
