Walsh whales at Nelson Hills By Eliot Fisher NELSO HILLS, ,jAN. 24 Kellon Walsh was able to hold off some serious competition to win the l2Scc Expert cla s at the Gamblers Me's European Scrambles. Beautiful weather helped to start off a fresh racing season. The event was held in the always-popular 1 elson Hill, about an hour outside of Las Vegas. The 12-mile course proved to be both technical and fun. Due to the European format, the races were an hour long. The 12See race was run with the Open-class bikes. Unfortunately, this kept the 125s back in the overall, but also kept them all in the same amount of dust. Walsh pulled the holes hot on his Vegas Power Sports-backed Yam::aha, but he was quickly challenged by KTM rider Robert MarshaJJ. The two diced for a while, cutting throogh the slower Open bikes, until Marshall took an off-track excursion and broke his forks. This let Walsh pull away to a nice lead. Meanwhile, slow-starting motocross rider Monte Montague W(JS coming up from a terrible start, eventually pass.ing Reno Motorsportsbacked Paul Ziegler for third. Second place was all Carl Maassburg's. He was able to cash in on Marshall's bad fortun.e to take the runner-up position. The Open class was won by YZ-mounted Aron Huntington, who put in a tremendous day. Huntington won not only the Open class but also the Four-Stroke Expert class. ot to be YAMAHA OFF-~/fS ..~~ March(MfT) 1/2 Kirton Ranch Okeechobee, FL E of Okeechobee on Rt 70 5 miles Monday-Quad Race/Tuesday-Bike Race (Sun.
